HAMDEN, Conn. - Senior Kenzie Lancaster of the Quinnipiac women's hockey team was awarded the 2019 Sarah Devens Award on Tuesday, April 2, as annouced by ECAC Hockey. The Sarah Devens Award is annually presented by ECAC Hockey and the Hockey East Association to one player who exemplifies a commitment to leadership on and off the ice.
The Sarah Devens Award is presented in a joint honor by ECAC Hockey and Hockey East every year after the hockey season ends, and the recipient is awarded a $10,000 post-graduate scholarship. The award was created to honor the former Dartmouth women's hockey player, Sarah Devens, who died in 1995. The 2018 Sarah Devens Award winner was Vermont's Taylor Willard.
Lancaster is the second Quinnipiac player to receive the prestigious award after Chelsea Laden won in 2015. The Waxhaw, N.C. native was also named the winner of the Mandi Schwartz Student-Athlete of the Year Award after the conclusion of the 2018-19 season. Lancaster has demonstrated the true meaning of a leader on and off the ice this season, serving as the alternate captain for the team and the team's community service coordinator.
She played in all 36 games throughout the 2018-19 season for Quinnipiac and finished the season leading the team in points for the first time in her career with 4 goals and 21 assists for 25 points. Lancaster completed the season tied for fourth overall in the ECAC in assist scoring (19).
Lancaster will not be traveling far from the ice as her time at Quinnipiac comes to a close, as she hopes to pursue a career in coaching after graduation.
