Bobcats Fall to Hawks in MAAC Quarterfinals Despite Season-High 18 3-Pointers
ALBANY, N.Y. – Cameron Young (Los Angeles, California) and Jacob Rigoni (Adelaide, Australia) combined for 63 points Saturday night but the No. 3 seed Quinnipiac men's basketball team fell in a shootout to the No. 6 Monmouth Hawks, 98-92, in the MAAC Quarterfinals at the Times Union Center.
As a team, Quinnipiac knocked down a season-high 18 3-pointers in the loss to record the second-most 3-pointers in a MAAC Tournament game and most since Iona hit 19 against Monmouth in the MAAC Tournament on March 8, 2015. Quinnipiac's 18 threes Saturday night are tied for the third-most in a MAAC game in league history.
Young, the MAAC Player of the Year, scored 33 points to give him his fifth 30-point game of the season. He knocked down eight 3-pointers in the game, giving him 101 on the season to break Rick Barry's program record of 99 set during the 1994-95 season.
Rigoni recorded a career-high 30 points with a career-best seven made 3-pointers as he kept pace with Young in the scoring column Saturday night.
Rich Kelly (Shelton, Connecticut) recorded his second career double-double with 10 points and 11 assists in the MAAC Quarterfinals to round out the Bobcats' offensive attack.
The Bobcats and Hawks battled back-and-forth all game long, trading baskets for the early part of the game before Quinnipiac took a six-point lead with 10:53 to go in the second half.
After taking the lead, Monmouth went on a run to take a late lead before the Bobcats attempted to claw back from a 14-point deficit. Quinnipiac scored 13 of the game's final 19 points but came up just short in the comeback bid.

- Rigoni and Young hit back-to-back 3-pointers in the opening minute to erase a five-point halftime deficit to take a one-point lead
- Both teams continued to trade baskets early in the second half before Rigoni hit three free throws and Young hit a 3-pointer for six straight Quinnipiac points to take a 67-62 lead
- Kelly hit four straight free throws on back-to-back possessions to give the Bobcats a 10-3 run to take a 71-65 lead before the Hawks went on a 15-0 run over a span of 3:44 to take a nine-point lead but Young ended the run with his seventh three of the game
- Monmouth's lead reached 14 points before the Bobcats started to chip away with an 8-0 run in a span of 1:18 to pull back within six points at 92-86.
- Rigoni and Young each knocked down 3-pointers in the final 20 seconds of the contest but it wasn't enough to overcome a couple late Monmouth baskets

- Young recorded 30-plus points for the seventh time in his career and fifth time during the 2018-19 season with his 33-point game
- Young averaged 44 points per game in his two games at the Times Union Center this season after scoring an NCAA-best 55 points on Feb. 17 against Siena
- Young knocked down 10 field goals for just the third time this season and eight 3-pointers made were his second-most in a game this season
- He finished the season with a Quinnipiac Division I single-season program record 699 points, also good for the third-most points in a season across all levels
- Young knocked down 101 3-pointers in 2018-19, breaking Rick Barry's previous mark of 99 set during the 1994-95 season
