HAMDEN, Conn. – The No. 8/8 Quinnipiac men's ice hockey team is back in the NCAA Tournament for the first time since the 2015-16 season this weekend as the Bobcats are the No. 2 seed in the Midwest Regional in Allentown, Pennsylvania, to face No. 14/14 Arizona State in the first round on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
Last Time Out
Quinnipiac was swept in the quarterfinals of the 2019 ECAC Hockey Tournament with a 2-1 loss in overtime to the Brown Bears on March 15 followed by a 4-3 loss the following night. It was the first time the Bobcats lost back-to-back games this season and first time in 20 years the Bobcats did not win a postseason series.
Scouting Arizona State
The Sun Devils are one of the most improved teams of the 2018-19 season from a year ago, increasing their win total by 13 for the season and head into the playoffs with a 21-12-1 record to record their first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance. The Sun Devils are led offensively by forward Johnny Walker, who led the nation with 23 goals and also added 11 assists for 34 points. Nine of Walker's 23 goals have come on the power play. Defenseman Brinson Pasichnuk is also one of the better blue-liners as he is second on the team with 12 goals and 29 points while his 17 assists is tops on the Sun Devils who have six 20-point scorers this season. Joey Daccord has been stellar between the pipes with a 2.36 GAA and .926 save percentage as he has started all 34 games and played nearly every minute this season.
All-Time vs. Arizona State
The Bobcats are 3-1-1 all-time against the Sun Devils heading into the 2019 NCAA Tournament after meeting in each of Arizona State's first three seasons as a Division I program. Quinnipiac and Arizona State met in the Sun Devils' fourth-ever Division I game, with the Bobcats coming away with the 5-0 victory. The pair met in a two-game series in Hamden in 2016-17, splitting the weekend series before Quinnipiac traveled out to Arizona State last season to tie in the opener before coming away with a 5-3 win in the final game of the series.
Scouting Minnesota Duluth
The defending national champion No. 2/2 Bulldogs are once again one of the top teams in the nation heading into the NCAA Tournament as the No. 1 seed in the Midwest Regional and No. 2 overall seed. Minnesota Duluth has averaged 3.18 goals per game this season, led by Nick Swaney's 15 goals while Parker Mackay (12) and Justin Richards (10) have been solid offensive weapons. Richards and defenseman Scott Perunovich lead the team with 28 points as Perunovich has racked up 25 assists. Hunter Shepard has been a rock as he started all 38 games between the pipes, posting a 1.87 GAA and .918 save percentage on the way to an NCHC Championship, which they won last week.

Quinnipiac and Minnesota Duluth have never met.
Scouting Bowling Green
The No. 15/15 Falcons round out the Midwest Regional after their WCHA championship game appearance last weekend, taking Minnesota State to overtime but came up just short. Bowling Green is led by a pair of 40-point scorers in Max Johnson (42) and Brandon Kruse (40) while Johnson leads the team with an astounding 19 goals, including 10 on the power play. Connor Forward also has 17 goals, and 10 power play goals, as the Falcons average 3.30 goas per game. Kruse leads the team with 31 assists while Alec Rauhauser is the top blue-liner on the team with four goals and 22 assists for 26 points. Ryan Bednard as seen the bulk of the action with 31 starts in goal for the Falcons this season, going 20-7-4 with a 1.78 GAA and .926 save percentage

Back in the Dance
The Bobcats are back in the NCAA Tournament for the fifth time in the past seven seasons, and first time since 2015-16 as the No. 7 overall seed in the tournament. Overall, Quinnipiac is making its sixth NCAA Tournament with its first appearance coming in 2002 after winning the MAAC Championship. Quinnipiac is 6-5 all-time in 11 NCAA Tournament games in their six appearances, including national championship game appearances in 2016 and 2013 as the Bobcats came up short against North Dakota and Yale, respectively.
Connecticut Ice Festival
Earlier this week, SNY announced that Quinnipiac will join Yale, UConn and Sacred Heart in an all-Connecticut men's ice hockey tournament between the four teams called Connecticut Ice, set to debut in January 2020. The multi-day festival will include youth tournaments at the Webster Bank Arena, on-ice clinics and off-ice seminars for youth players and parents followed by the tournament broadcast on SNY.
Goaltender of the Year
Following a long-line of superb goaltenders, Andrew Shortridge was named the ECAC Hockey Ken Dryden Goaltender of the Year. Shortridge is just the second goaltender in program history to take home the honor, joining Eric Hartzell '13 in 2012-13. Jamie Holden '05 had also been the Atlantic Hockey Goaltender of the Year in 2003-04 as the only other Bobcat to win a league's goaltender of the year honors.
Mike Richter Award Semifinalist
Andrew Shortridge is also Quinnipiac's first-ever Mike Richter Award Semifinalist in the sixth season that the award has been given out. Shortridge is Quinnipiac's second candidate after Michael Garteig '16 was twice named to the Award Watch List. Shortridge has been among the best goaltenders in the nation all season long, currently leading the nation with a 1.51 GAA and .941 save percentage.
Hobey Baker Award Top 10 Finalist
Senior captain Chase Priskie continued the Bobcats streak of good news as he was named a Top 10 Finalist for the 2019 Hobey Baker Award on March 20. Priskie is Quinnipiac's third finalist for the Hobey Baker Award after Reid Cashman '07 was a Top 10 Finalist in 2005 and Eric Hartzell '13 was a Hobey Hat Trick Finalist in 2013. Priskie has been among the top players in the nation, leading the nation's defensemen with 17 goals and is fifth with 39 points.
