Larsen Homers, Softball Edged by Brown in Doubleheader

HAMDEN, Conn. - The Quinnipiac softball team was edged by the Brown Bears, 4-2 and 6-2, in a home doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon. The Bears added one run late in the seventh inning to extend its lead to 4-2 and close the game. Senior Kendall Brundrett recorded six strikeouts and freshman Brooklyn Maguire tallied three in the second game, which is a season-high number of strikeouts for the Bobcats in the circle during one game.
Game 1 vs the Bears
First Inning - Sophmore Kayla Jensen led the Bobcats off with a single to left field and then proceeded to steal second base. Senior Rebecca Drake hit a double to center field and recorded an RBI to send Jensen home. Quinnipiac ended the inning with a 1-0 lead.
Sixth Inning - Junior Megan Dyson reached first base off an error by the Bears. Dyson advanced to second after a single from freshman Bridget Nasir. Freshman Alexis Otero stepped up and hit a single of her own to advance all of the runners. With the bases loaded, sophomore Brighid Douglas reached first base off an error by the Bears, forcing each baserunner to advance once. Dyson scored an unearned run to take the score to 3-2 with the Bears leading.
The Bears scored one run in the seventh inning and forced three outs on the Bobcats in the final inning to secure the game one win, 4-2. As team, the Bobcats recorded five hits, two runs and two RBI.
Game 2 vs the Bears
Second Inning - Senior Erin Larsen scored the first run of the game with a solo single homerun to left field. This was Larsen's first homerun of the season and 10th of her career.
Fifth Inning - Freshman Danielle Sorenson hit a single and was able to advance off an error by the Bears' infield to reach second base. Junior Rachel Marchuk hit an RBI single to right field, allowing Sorenson to score.
The Bobcats trailed, 6-2, after the sixth inning, and the Bears would hold on to secure the win after the seventh. Brundrett and Maguire totaled nine strikeouts, which is a game-high for the Bobcats' in the circle. Marchuk went 2-3 with one RBI and one walk.

Quinnipiac will begin conference play starting Saturday, March 30 against Manhattan. The first pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for 12 p.m.
