Softball Hosts Manhattan and Saint Peter's to Open MAAC Play

HAMDEN, Conn. - The Quinnipiac softball team will host the Manhattan Jaspers and Saint Peter's Peacocks on Saturday and Sunday to open MAAC play. The Bobcats and Jaspers will face off on Saturday, March 30 at 12 and 2 p.m., and the Peacocks will come to Hamden on Sunday for a doubleheader starting at 12 p.m.

Last Time Out
Quinnipiac hosted Brown on Tuesday, March 26 for the first home doubleheader of the season. The Bears took both games, 4-2 and 6-2, against the Bobcats. Senior Erin Larsen recorded her first homerun of the season. Senior Kendall Brundrett and freshman Brooklyn Maguire totaled nine strikeouts in the second game, which is a team-high on the season for the pitchers.

Redshirt Senior Jen Fay, of the Quinnipiac women's basketball team, walked on to the softball team this week and will play this weekend against the Jaspers and Peacocks.

The Bobcats and the Jaspers will meet for the first conference games of the 2019 season. Manhattan will come to Hamden with a 9-13 overall record after dropping two games against Wagner College on Wednesday, March 27. Lauren Pitney leads the Jaspers with a .414 average with 18 runs, 24 hits, four doubles, one triple and four homeruns. Stephanie Kristo (4-3) leads the Jaspers in the circle with a 4.30 ERA through 40.2 innings pitched. Kayla McDermott has tallied 35 strikeouts to lead the team through 57.1 innings pitched.
Last Time against Manhattan
The Bobcats dropped the doubleheader in 2018 against the Jaspers. Manhattan took both games, 2-1 and 7-2.
Notes on the Peacocks
Saint Peter's is 3-20 overall and will come to Hamden to open its MAAC play. The Peacocks traveled to Philadelphia, Pa., for a midweek doubleheader against Drexel on Thursday, March 28, and lost both games. Theamaris Ramirez leads the Peacocks with a .281 average with eight runs, 16 hits, two doubles and three homeruns. Sydney Senerchia leads the Peacocks in the circle with a 7.88 ERA.

Quinnipiac swept Saint Peter's last year, winning both games, 8-0.

- Sophomore Kayla Jensen continues to lead the Bobcats with a .392 average with 31 hits, 12 runs, four doubles and one homerun. Her batting average ranks fifth in the MAAC. She has not only recorded a team-high nine stolen bases, which ranks third in the MAAC, but also 31 hits, which is ranked second overall in the conference.
- Senior Erin Larsen is ranked second overall after being walked 17 times and her .456 on-base percentage stands at fifth in the conference.
- Junior Rachel Marchuk is ranked first overal in sacrfice bunts with five.
- Freshman Lauren King's ERA of 3.29 is ranked as the sixth-best for the confernece. King also leads the conference after only allowing one homerun.
- Senior Kendall Brundrett has struck out 38 total batters, which is good for fifth overall in the MAAC.
- Freshman Bridget Nasir has been perfect on defense with a 1.000 fielding percentage.
- Freshman Alexis Otero is ranked fifth with 127 putouts at first base. She has also recorded six fielding double plays, which is ranked third.
