Bobcats Set for Second Meet in Five Days Against Tornado

HAMDEN, Conn. – The No. 3 Quinnipiac acrobatics and tumbling team is in Bristol, Tennessee, Thursday evening as the Bobcats are set for a top-10 NCATA matchup with the No. 10 King Tornado beginning at 7 p.m. in the Student Center Complex.
Scouting King
The Tornado come into Thursday's meet with a 3-2 record on the season and are 1-2 against NCATA Top 10 opponents. King opened the season with three straight wins over No. 9 Alderson Broaddus, and Belmont Abbey and East Texas Baptist in a tri-meet before falling against a pair of top-five opponents at Gannon and most recently against No. 4 Azusa Pacific on March 6. Despite losing to Azusa Pacific, the Tornado recorded a season-high with 263.515 points. Last time out, King set program records with a 9.80 in the 7-Element Heat of the Acro Event with a 9.80 and a 9.900 in the aerial heat of tumbling.
All-Time vs. King
Quinnipiac is 3-0 all-time against King in their previous three meetings with Thursday marking the Bobcats' second ever trip to Bristol to face the Tornado. Last season, Quinnipiac picked up a 284.01-254.635 victory over King following their first ever trip to Bristol in 2017 with a 277.370-268.195 win.
Last Time Out
The Bobcats took down the West Liberty Hilltoppers for their first victory of the season on Saturday, winning 273.430-235.585. Quinnipiac's points were its highest of the 2019 season while the Bobcats also had season-highs in different heats and three events.
Weekly Awards
After picking up the first win of the season, Megan Hamel and Carly Duval collected their first weekly awards of their careers from the ECAC. Hamel was named the Athlete of the Week while Duval was named the Specialist of the Week. Both Hamel and Duval were part of Quinnipiac's 10.00 in the 5-Element Acro Heat, while Hamel was a part of six total season highs and Duval was part of four.
Perfect 10
Quinnipiac's 5-Element Acro group recorded the second 10.00 of the season with a stellar performance against West Liberty on Saturday. The Bobcats had previously recorded a 10.00 of the toss heat of the compulsory event against Oregon in the season opener. Duval, Hamel and Camren Diaz (Oxford, Connecticut) were all part of the 5-Element Acro group.
Acro Success
In addition to the Bobcats' 10.00, the Bobcats also recorded season-highs in the 6-Element and 7-Element heats with scorers of 9.55 and 9.65, respectively, and concluded the event with a 29.20, besting their score at Baylor of 28.60 that stood as the previous season-high.
Toss Up
The Bobcats also recorded an event-high in the toss event on Saturday, posting a 29.10 to best their previously top score at Baylor of 28.85. The 450 Salto group posted a season-high of 9.70 while the open toss group recorded an impressive 9.85.
Every Day I'm Tumblin'
Quinnipiac's best round of the day came in the tumbling event as the Bobcats set five new season-highs and tied their previous best in the duo pass to open the event. Quinnipiac's best score came in the open pass from Melanie Mancini (Waterbury, Connecticut) who recorded a 9.750 to lead the tumblers. Overall in the event, the Bobcats had a 55.100.
