Softball Opens Play in Florida with Three Games

HAMDEN, Conn. - The Quinnipiac softball team is set for three games preceding the USF Under Armour Showcase. The Bobcats will play Eastern Illinois and Colgate on March 12-13 in three independent games before competing in the tournament hosted by USF in Clearwater, Fla.

Quinnipiac is coming off a 1-4 weekend at the Liberty Softball Classic from Feb. 28-March 2. The Bobcats are 3-7 overall.

Scouting the Panthers
The Bobcats will face the Eastern Illinois Panthers on Tuesday, March 12 in a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. The Panthers are 6-16 overall and have already played four games in Clearwater, Fla., this past weekend. The Panthers defeated Colgate, 13-4, on Sunday, March 10. Mia Davis leads the Panters with a .321 average through 18 games. She has tallied nine runs, one double and four homeruns.

Taking on the Raiders
The Colgate Raiders travel to Florida with a 7-8 overall record. The Raiders will face Providence and South Florida before playing the Bobcats on Wednesday, March 13. Jordan Miller leads the Raiders with a .447 average through 15 games. Miller has recorded seven runs, five doubles and three homeruns. In the circle, Jessica Hay leads Colgate with a 3-3 record and 3.03 ERA. Bella Crow leads the Raiders with 20 strikeouts through seven games in the circle.

Quinnipiac's Last Time Out
The Bobcats have dropped their last three games - all during the Liberty Softball Classic. Quinnipiac defeated Sacred Heart, 8-2, however, lead by junior Rachel Marchuk. The junior infielder went 2-2 with two runs and one RBI.
