HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac men's ice hockey team moved up one spot to No. 4 in the latest national polls and maintained the first-place vote in the USCHO.com Division I Men's Poll released on Monday afternoon.
Quinnipiac moved up one spot in both the USCHO Poll and the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine College Hockey Poll from No. 5 to No. 4, continuing its streak of 14 weeks in the national rankings and have now been ranked in the top five for five weeks in that span.
As of Feb. 4, the Bobcats are up to No. 4 in the PairWise rankings, which serves as a system which attempts to mimic the method used by the NCAA Selection Committee to determine participants for the NCAA Division I men's hockey tournament. The PWR compares all teams by these criteria: record against common opponents, head-to-head competition, and the RPI.
The Bobcats went from 792 points in last week's USCHO Poll to 840 this week and increased from 370 to 398 points in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Poll.
Quinnipiac is coming off a weekend sweep of the North Country, it's first road sweep of Clarkson and St. Lawrence since the 2012-13 season and just the third time ever. The Bobcats defeated then-No. 10 Clarkson before taking down St. Lawrence.
Odeen Tufto (Chaska, Minnesota) led the nation with six points on the weekend, including a four-point game at St. Lawrence, to lead the offensive attack. Chase Priskie (Pembroke Pines, Florida) had a goal and three assists for four points, all coming on the power play, while Brandon Fortunato (North Hills, New York) had four assists.
Wyatt Bongiovanni (Birmingham, Michigan) totaled three points on the weekend, including two goals, while Ethan de Jong (North Vancouver, British Columbia) also struck twice. The Bobcats had eight players record multiple points on the weekend.
Tufto and Bongiovanni earned ECAC Hockey weekly awards this week for their performances.
Andrew Shortridge (Anchorage, Alaska) recorded a pair of wins to increase his total to 12 on the season, the second-most wins in ECAC Hockey. He also continues to lead the nation with a 1.22 GAA and .952 save percentage after 39 saves on the weekend, including 25 in a 4-2 win at Clarkson.
The No. 4/4 Quinnipiac men's ice hockey team hosts Yale this Friday night for the 17th Annual Heroes Hat game with puck drop set for 7 p.m. at Frank Perrotti Jr. Arena.
