HEMPSTEAD, N.Y.. - The Quinnipiac women's lacrosse team looks to string a pair of victories together on Tuesday when it travels to Long Island to take on the Hofstra Pride. The fourth game of Quinnipiac's 2019 season will begin at 3:00 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT – W, 14-8 vs. LIU Brooklyn
Junior Megan Szawlowski recorded her second Quinnipiac hat trick Saturday afternoon with a four-goal, six-point performance as the Quinnipiac women's lacrosse team cruised to a 14-8 win over the LIU Brooklyn Blackbirds. Maddie Deegan, Jenna Henningsen, Allison Kuhn and Kayla Moreau all recorded two goals Saturday to help pace the offensive attack. Kuhn finished the game second on the team with four points while Deegan had three.
SCOUTING THE PRIDE
Hofstra moved to 3-1 with a dominating 20-11 victory over Fairfield on Saturday. The Pride got several outstanding performances in the game led by six goals and six draw controls from junior Alexa Mattera and 11 draw controls and two goals from junior Darcie Smith. Mattera ranks second on the team in scoring with 16 points on 15 goals and one assist, while also ranking second with 16 draw controls. Junior Alyssa Parrella is tops on the squad with 21 points on 18 goals and three assists. Smith leads the Pride in draw controls (22) and is tied for the team lead in ground balls (10) and caused turnovers (6). Freshman Jess Smith (no relation) has a 8.10 goals against average and a .537 save percentage to go along with 10 ground balls.
ATTACKING THE MAAC
Senior Allison Kuhn and graduate student Sami Walters both earned Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Player of the Week honors for their performances at Stetson. Kuhn was named MAAC Offensive Player of the Week after scoring five goals, including a double-overtime game-winner. She also added an assist, two draw controls, and a ground ball to her stat line. Walters, a transfer from UMass, was named MAAC Defensive Player of the Week after making a career-high nine saves in the win. After entering the game at halftime, the graduate student also picked up six ground balls in her Quinnipiac debut.
GET SWAZZY WITH IT
Junior Megan Szawlowski has tallied 11 goals in her first four games as a Bobcat. The Central Connecticut State transfer has taken 22 shots and won nine draw controls.
NEWBIES ON THE BOARD
Freshmen Sophie Spencer and Maddie Deegan both scored a goal in their collegiate debuts against Stetson, while classmate Gabby Beckett added a goal and an assist against Brown. All three freshmen scored against Yale on Wednesday, while Deegan added another pair of goals in the win over LIU Brooklyn.
MAN DOWN BUT NOT OUT
Quinnipiac played man-down for 14 minutes in this season's game at Brown. In that time span, the Bobcats scored a shorthanded goal and did not allow Brown a single tally.
ALLIE KELSEY, HOMECOMING WARRIOR
Playing in her home state, junior goalkeeper Allie Kelsey made eight saves against Brown, three shy of her career-best. She added eight ground balls and five caused turnovers, one ground ball short of tying Quinnipiac's program record.
KUHN JOINS CENTURY CLUB
Senior attack Allison Kuhn recorded her 100th career point against Canisius last season and now has 127 points (93 goals, 35 assists) early in her senior year. She is on pace to become only the ninth player in school history to record 100 career goals, as she stands 7 away. Her 18 points (13 goals, 5 assists) this season moved her into 15th place on the Bobcats' all-time scoring list with 127 career points and 10th all-time in goals.
MOVIN' ON UP
The Bobcats are one of just six of the 115 NCAA D1 Women's Lacrosse teams in the nation have increased their win total in each of the last four seasons.
TRENDING UPWARDS
Head Coach Tanya Kotowicz's squad has tallied more combined wins over the last two seasons than any two-year span since 2013.
UP TO THE CHALLENGE
The 16-game regular-season slate runs from February to April, and will feature two opponents that reached the 2018 NCAA Tournament. In addition, seven of Quinnipiac's opponents won at least nine games each a year ago. The program's seven regular season home competitions feature non-conference matchups with Brown, LIU Brooklyn, and defending Northeast Conference Champion Wagner College, who won a first round game in last year's NCAA Tournament.
