HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac men's ice hockey team begins its final weekend of the first half Friday night as the Bobcats take on the No. 10/10 UMass Minutemen in a home-and-home series beginning Friday night at Frank Perrotti Jr. Arena.
 
Last Time Out
Quinnipiac traveled to Central New York last weekend and fell in back-to-back games at No. 2/2 Cornell and Colgate. The Bobcats battled and outshot the Big Red despite falling, 2-1, before outshooting the Raiders again in a 3-1 loss to close out the weekend.
 
Scouting UMass
A season removed from a national championship appearance, UMass remains a force on the national stage as they are ranked No. 10 in both national polls. The Minutemen are 8-3-1 on the season and 4-3-1 in Hockey East play and are unbeaten in its last three games with wins over Boston University and Merrimack in that span. UMass opened up the season 6-1-0 in its first seven games, including a five-game winning streak. Mitchell Chaffee leads the Minutemen with 10 goals and 16 points on the season while first-year defenseman Zac Jones leads the team with eight assists and is second with 11 points. John Leonard is second with seven goals. The Minutemen have split their goaltenders in the 2019-20 season with Filip Lindberg going 4-2-1 in eight games with a 1.97 GAA and .915 save percentage while Matt Murray is 4-1-0 with a 1.84 GAA and .902 save percentage. UMass has been stellar on the penalty kill at 88.7 percent on the season while the power play is at 13 percent.
 
All-Time vs. UMass
Quinnipiac leads the all-time series with UMass with an 8-5-2 record in 15 matchups dating back to the 2009-10 season. The two teams have been fairly even matched in the past five seasons with the Bobcats owning a 5-4-0 record in those nine meetings. Last season, the Bobcats shutout the Minutemen, 4-0, at Frank Perrotti Jr. Arena when UMass was the No. 1 team in the nation before the Minutemen took the second game of the series, 3-1, at the Mullins Center.

Rand's Winning Ways
Head coach Rand Pecknold continues to approach milestone wins in his career. In addition to having 517 wins to rank 12th all-time among Division I Men's Hockey coaches, he is just 10 wins from passing former men's and women's tennis head coach Mike Quitko for the most wins by a coach in Quinnipiac Athletics history. Pecknold and Quitko are the only two Quinnipiac coaches to record 500 wins with Quinnipiac programs.
 
Face the Nation
Quinnipiac has been among the top faceoff teams in the nation as the Bobcats are fourth in the nation at .556 after another successful weekend at the faceoff dot. The Bobcats have won 435 faceoffs this season and lost just 347. Quinnipiac has won the faceoff battle in 12 of the 13 games this season.
 
Skyler Brind'Amour leads the Bobcats and is 20th in the nation with a .607 faceoff percentage while William Fällström is 23rd in the nation at .597. Both are also in the top five in ECAC Hockey at second and fourth, respectively, while Odeen Tufto leads ECAC Hockey with 131 faceoff wins.
 
Petro Between the Pipes
Keith Petruzzelli has been among the top goaltenders in ECAC Hockey over the past two weeks as he owns a .933 save percentage and 1.52 GAA, having allowed just six goals in four games. Petruzzelli has made 84 saves in that span, including 23 against Rensselaer for his most in the span. On the season, Petruzzelli has allowed two goals or fewer in six games this season.
 
Jermain's Jumpin'
Nick Jermain continues to light the lamp at a solid pace this season as he tied his career-high with his fifth goal at Cornell on Friday. Jermain has now scored five goals in each of the past three seasons, with this season's coming in 12 fewer games than last season. He is second on the team in goals this season and tied for eighth in ECAC Hockey.
 
DiLiberatore's Dealin'
Peter DiLiberatore netted his second power-play goal of the season with a tally at Colgate Saturday night for his second overall goal. DiLiberatore is second among ECAC Hockey defensemen with two power-play goals while his seven points this season are tied for sixth.
