HAMDEN, Conn. – Quinnipiac field hockey returns to action with another weekend slate of action as the Bobcats travel to #25 Providence for BIG EAST play before a return home for Senior Day to take on the Yale Bulldogs on Sunday.
Scouting Providence
The Friars cracked the top 25 for the first time this season after a weekend split, falling to #3 UConn and taking down the New Hampshire Wildcats, 4-1, back home in Providence. Providence has won three of its last four games on their way to an 8-5 record. All five losses for Providence have come to nationally ranked teams or teams that are currently in the national rankings. Izzy Mendez has had a stellar season with eight goals and two assists while three other Friars have also scored at least three goals this season. Providence has outscored opponents, 28-19, this season while Lydia Rice has posted four shutouts with a .718 save percentage and 1.46 GAA.
All-Time vs. Providence
The Bobcats are searching for their first-ever win against the Friars in five all-time meetings dating back to the 2014 season. Providence is 5-0 in those meetings and last season, the Friars won their game in Hamden, 6-2.
Scouting Yale
Yale has struggled this season, picking up two wins on the way to a 2-9 record and 0-3 mark in the Ivy League. The Bulldogs wins have come against Sacred Heart and Wagner in the midst of a challenging schedule. Yale has lost six straight games coming into the weekend, including a 4-3 loss in overtime at #12 Princeton. All six losses in that span have come by one goal in that streak. Olivia Levieux leads the Bulldogs with five goals on the season and is tied with Imogen Davies for the team lead with 11 points after Davies' three goals and five assists. Yale is averaging two goals per game. Sydney Terroso has been solid in the cage with a 2.45 GAA and .735 save percentage to go with one shutout on the season.

Quinnipiac and Yale are meeting for a 20th straight season dating back to their first-ever meeting in 2000. The Bobcats are 6-13 all-time against the Bulldogs. Despite last season's 3-1 loss at Yale, the Bobcats have won three of the last four games.

Recognizing the Class of 2020
Quinnipiac field hockey will honor its six members of the Class of 2020 on Sunday with its annual senior game: #5 Valerie Perkins (Mohegan Lake, New York), #8 Bianka Strubbe (Wroclaw, Poland), #10 Amanda Blum (Langhorne, Pennsylvania), #32 Sarah Denion (Mountain Top, Pennsylvania), #36 Ines Ruiz Martinez (Madrid, Spain) and #77 Molly Jannell (Georgetown, Massachusetts). Perkins is the leading scorer of the group with nine goals and nine assists for 27 points in her career while Strubbe has eight goals and five assists in the past two seasons. Ruiz Martinez has three goals and 13 assists in her career as well as 16 defensive saves and Blum has tallied five goals and three assists.
Cappello's Cruising
Julianna Cappello (Mohegan Lake, New York) scored her second career goal last Friday with a stellar unassisted effort against Villanova with a goal that tied the game at the time. Cappello has scored both of her goals this season in BIG EAST play.
Valiant Vorel
Mack Vorel (Mendham, New Jersey) came off the bench Sunday to make seven saves for the Bobcats at Maine, good for her second-most saves in a game this season. Vorel now has 33 total saves and is up to a .767 save percentage after appearing in a game for a second straight week.
Nationally Ranked Opponents
Quinnipiac will face its fifth nationally ranked opponent this season when the Bobcats take on the #25 Providence Friars Friday night. The Bobcats have faced three nationally ranked opponents in BIG EAST play so far this season in addition to #21 Stanford and #17 Boston College earlier this season.
