HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac field hockey team returns back home with a crucial home game against the Villanova Wildcats before hitting the road for Maine on Sunday to take on the Black Bears.
Scouting Villanova
The Wildcats come into Friday's matchup with a 4-6 record overall along with an 0-3 mark in BIG EAST play. Villanova snapped a five-game losing streak with a 3-2 win against Bucknell on Sunday. In league play, the Wildcats have losses at Georgetown, Liberty and vs. Providence. Lydia Sydnor has led an impressive Villanova offense with nine goals and four assists for 22 points. Five Wildcats have scored at least three goals this season. Jordan McGinley has started all 10 games for Villanova and has a .575 save percentage with 3.60 GAA.
All-Time vs. Villanova
Quinnipiac and Villanova have met four times in the past 14 seasons, with three of those meetings coming since the Bobcats joined the BIG EAST. The Bobcats are 1-3 all-time, with the only win coming at Villanova back in 2016. Quinnipiac has lost the last two meetings, 2-1, with the last meeting in Hamden coming in 2017.
Scouting Maine
The Black Bears come into the weekend with a 3-7 record and are 1-0 in America East after defeating UMass Lowell in the first league game. Maine has had a challenging schedule to start the year with matchups against four nationally ranked teams this season, including a 4-3 win over No. 5 Northwestern on Oct. 6. Brianna Ricker leads the Black Bears with nine goals and 19 points while Brooke Sulinski and Chloe Walton each have three goals on the season.
All-Time vs. Maine
Quinnipiac comes into the weekend 4-12 all-time in 16 meetings, with the Black Bears victorious in eight straight meetings. The Bobcats are looking for their first win against Maine since Sept. 21, 2008, when Quinnipiac picked up a win in Orono.
BEDN Comes to Town
Friday's game against Villanova will be aired on the BIG EAST Digital Network, one of four field hockey games on the BEDN this season. All four will be played at Quinnipiac, with the final three airing during the Semifinals and Championship in November.

Tickets are on sale now for the 2019 BIG EAST Field Hockey Championship hosted by Quinnipiac University on Nov. 8 and 10 at the Quinnipiac Field Hockey Stadium. Strubbe, Strubbe
Bianka Strubbe continued her offensive tear this season with a goal against then-No. 13 Liberty for her fifth of the season. Strubbe is among the BIG EAST leaders as she averages 0.50 goals per game this season and ranks tied for nine in both goals and goals per game. Strubbe's 12 points are also tied for ninth in the league.
Holding Her Own
Inès Ruiz Martinez continues to be among the better defensive players in the league as she is tied for first in the BIG EAST and seventh in the nation with three defensive saves after picking up her third of the season with a great goal line play against Liberty. Ruiz Martinez now has 16 defensive saves in the past three seasons.
Main Event
Main has led the Bobcats to 199 victories over her 25 seasons after taking down Sacred Heart a week ago, putting her just one away from picking up the 200th victory of her career. All but 15 of Main's victories have come at the Division I level and she has amassed 112 of those wins in conference play. Main is looking to become the 20th active NCAA Division I Field Hockey coach to record 200 wins and the 41st all-time.
