HAMDEN, Conn. - The Quinnipiac women's hockey team will be on the road this weekend taking on #9 Colgate and #4 Cornell. The Bobcats are coming off a 2-0 weekend after a 5-0 win against Dartmouth and 1-0 win against Harvard.
Scouting #9 Colgate
The Raiders are 11-6-3 overall and 5-2-1 in ECAC play. Colgate faced Mercyhurst last weekend and came away with a tied and a loss. Thirteen goals were scored in the Raiders' 8-5 loss as Emma Nuutinen netted four goals for the Lakers.
Jesse Eldrigde leads Colgate with 25 points on 15 goals and 10 assists. Malia Schneider is not far behind with 23 points on 11 goals and 12 assists for the Raiders. Julia Vandyk has played in 18 games as Colgate's netminder (9-6-3) and has recorded a 2.51 goals against average and .914 save percentage.
All-Time Against the Raiders
Quinnipiac stands at 13-16-5 against Colgate. On November 17, 2018, the Bobcats tied the Raiders, 3-3. Senior Melissa Samoskevich, junior Kati Tabin and freshman Lexie Adzija all scored in the tie.
Notes on #4 Cornell
The Big Red stand at 8-1-5 overall and 6-1-1 in the ECAC. Cornell played to a 3-3 tie against Penn State on Jan. 8. Kristin O'Neil (11-3-14) scored twice for the Big Red.
Madlynne Mills leads Cornell with 18 points on eight goals and 10 assists. Marlene Boissonnault has seen the most action in net for the Big Red with 12 games played (7-1-4) and recording a .927 save percentage and 1.63 goals against average.
All-Time vs Cornell
The Bobcats' record against the Big Red stands at 9-16-7. The last time Quinnipiac faced Cornell was Nov. 16, 2018 and Cornell won a tight content, 2-1.
Bobcats' Last Time Out
Quinnipiac opened 2019 with a road sweep against Dartmouth and Harvard.
Nine Bobcats scored at least one point in the 5-1 win against Dartmouth. Junior Sarah-Eve Coutu-Godbout netted her second and third goals of the year. Samoskevich tallied a goal and an assist in the win.
Junior Abbie Ives recorded 28 saves to shutout Harvard, 1-0, for the second time this season. The junior netminder has never lost to the Crimson in her three-year career. Samoskevich scored the game-winning goal in the third period with assists coming from seniors Randi Marcon and Kenzie Lancaster.
Ives Looking Solid in the Net
Ives has recorded four shutouts on the season against Brown, Yale and Harvard. She recorded a season-high 39 saves in the 3-2 win against UConn.
In the ECAC, Ives is ranked fourth overall with a 1.49 GAA, and she is ranked 13th in the country with an overall 1.69 GAA.
Defensemen Lighting it Up
Kati Tabin and Kate MacKenzie are ranked in the top ten for defenseman scoring in the ECAC. Tabin (3-4-7) is ranked third and MacKenzie (1-5-6) is ranked fifth.
Bobcats on the PK
Quinnipiac has gone 30-32 (93.8%) on the penalty kill through 12 ECAC games, which ranks second overall in the conference behind RPI.
A Look at the ECAC
Princeton still sits in first in the ECAC standings and has yet to be defeated in conference play with 22 points. The Big Red and the Bobcats are tied for second with 13 points.
Colgate, Clarkson, RPI, St. Lawrence and Harvard follow to make up the middle of the conference. Brown, Yale, Dartmouth and Union stand at the bottom.
Samo's Milestone
Senior captain Melissa Samoskevich has recorded 98 career points with 49 goals and 49 assists. She needs two more points to reach 100.
USA Hockey Winter Training Camp
Samoskevich was also invited to USA Hockey's Winter Training Camp in Plymouth, Mich. The senior attended the camp from Dec. 17-21.
