ALBANY, N.Y. — Quinnipiac senior forward Bo Pieper (Roseville, Minnesota) is the recipient of the 2018 ECAC Men's Hockey Student-Athlete of the Year Award, ECAC Hockey announced today.
The league's most prestigious award is presented annually to a student-athlete who excels in the classroom, participates in a minimum of 50 percent of the team's games, and demonstrates leadership on and off the ice.
Pieper is the second consecutive Quinnipiac student-athlete to earn the award, joining former Bobcats standout Derek Smith, the 2017 recipient.
A Minnesota native, Pieper enjoyed a solid senior campaign in 2017-18, recording 11 goals — tied for third-most on the team — and seven assists for 18 points. He played in all 38 of the Bobcats' contests. Four of his 11 goals came via the power play and three were game-winning goals.
A three-time ECAC Hockey All-Academic honoree and a two-time Quinnipiac Scholar-Athlete, Pieper was on the Dean's List six times. He also served as the inaugural president of Quinnipiac's Engineering Honors Society. In addition, Pieper interned for Orbital ATK in Minneapolis, Minnesota, one of the top defense and aerospace engineering contractors in the nation.
Pieper appeared in 158 contests during his career with Quinnipiac, amassing 32 goals and 33 assists for 65 points. He enjoyed his most productive offensive campaign as a junior, tying for the team lead in goals with 13 and tying for fourth in points with 25.
Pieper's selection for the honor came from an outstanding group of student-athletes, one representing each ECAC Hockey institution. The honorees from each program are Tim Lappin, Brown; Devin Brosseau, Clarkson; Sebastian Weberg, Colgate; Mitch Vanderlaan, Cornell; Devin Buffalo, Dartmouth; Nathan Krusko, Harvard; David Hallisey, Princeton; Viktor Liljegren, Rensselaer; Ryan Lough, St. Lawrence; Connor Light, Union; and Adam Larkin, Yale.
