HAMDEN, Conn. - The Quinnipiac men's lacrosse team, which picked up a big 14-11 road win over Detroit Mercy last weekend, will try to remain perfect in the MAAC when it welcomes Manhattan for a 3 p.m. contest on Saturday afternoon at Quinnipiac Lacrosse Stadium. The game will be the second half of a doubleheader with the women's lacrosse team, which plays Marist at 12 p.m.
LAST GAME (Quinnipiac 14, Detroit Mercy 11)
Quinnipiac remained undefeated in MAAC play with a big 14-11 road win over Detroit Mercy, which came into the game 2-0 in the league. After scoring only three goals in the first half, the Bobcats exploded with 11 goals after halftime, five in the third quarter and six in the fourth. Junior attack Foster Cuomo had a huge day with six goals and two assists, including four goals and two assists in the fourth quarter, when he had a hand in all six Bobcat tallies. Cuomo had the last four goals of the game for Quinnipiac, two of which came while playing a man down. Jake Tomsik had three goals and two assists for the Bobcats.
GOOD START IN MAAC
Quinnipiac opened MAAC play by capturing a dramatic 12-11 win over Siena on March 17. Senior midfielder Brian Feldman had four goals, and junior midfielder Matt Frost had three goals and three assists for a career-high six points. Frost provided the game-winner with just over four minutes left when he caught a rebound out of the air behind the net after Feldman's shot was saved and then flipped in a low backhand as he reached around the front of the cage. Sophomore goalie Joe Zukauskas sealed the win with a save in the final 10 seconds.
CUOMO EARNS PAIR OF WEEKLY HONORS
Junior attack Foster Cuomo was named the MAAC Offensive Player of the Week and earned a spot on the USILA National Team of the Week after his six-goal, two-assist effort in Saturday's win at Detroit Mercy. The eight points set a new career high, breaking his previous best of seven (five goals, two assists) which he set earlier this year in a win over NJIT, after which he earned his first MAAC Offensive Player of the Week honor.
TOMSIK WINS SECOND MAAC ROOKIE OF WEEK
Freshman attack Jake Tomsik was named the MAAC Rookie of the Week for the second time this season on March 18, after tallying a goal and three assists in a win over Siena. He also earned the honor after a strong effort in his collegiate debut against UMass Lowell back on Feb. 11, when he finished the game with four goals, scoring on all four of his shot attempts. He added two more goals against both Brown and Vermont to start his career with three straight multi-goal games, and is currently in a close battle for the team lead in points with 19 (see below).
MULTI-HORSE RACE FOR TEAM SCORING LEAD
The race for the scoring lead on the Quinnipiac men's lacrosse team couldn't be much closer as we head down the home stretch of the season. The team's three starters on its attack line are 1-2-3 in scoring, with Foster Cuomo (20-10-30), Jake Tomsik (16-13-29) and Mike Fletcher (16-9-25) all having big seasons. Senior Brian Feldman is also in the mix for the goal-scoring lead with 17.
FELDMAN JOINS CENTURY CLUB
With a second-half goal at Fairfield on March 6, senior midfielder Brian Feldman became only the fourth player in Quinnipiac history to score 100 goals in a career. The other three players to accomplish the feat did it over a two-year span in 2001-02, meaning that Feldman's milestone is one that had not been accomplished by any Bobcat over a span of 16 years. He now has 112 career goals, five shy of moving into a tie for third.

HOME, SWEET HOME
Quinnipiac is playing in a brand-new 1,500-seat stadium this season, and earned its first win in the new facility with a 12-11 overtime victory on Feb. 17 against nationally ranked Brown (No. 17). Last year, the Bobcats played all five home games at Yale, and lost the five games by a combined seven goals. The previous season, Quinnipiac won six games in a row on campus at its old facility, including a MAAC Championship win over Marist and an NCAA win over Hartford. Quinnipiac is 4-3 in its first seven games in its new stadium.
DEFENSIVE CLINIC
Quinnipiac used a dominant defensive effort to capture an 11-3 home win over Wagner on March 10. The Bobcats did not allow a single even-strength goal the entire day, allowing only an extra-man goal in the second quarter and two on EMOs in the fourth. Sophomore goalie Joe Zukauskas had eight saves, while the close defense of Riley Palmer, Mike Ruane and Bryce Nalls helped hold the Seahawks to only 20 shot attempts in the contest.
BOBCATS DEFEAT #17 BROWN FOR FIRST WIN IN NEW STADIUM
Quinnipiac fell behind 4-0 early, regrouped to take a 9-7 lead after three quarters, and then captured a dramatic 12-11 overtime win over No. 17 Brown on Saturday, Feb. 17 for its first-ever win at the new Quinnipiac Lacrosse Stadium. Junior attack Mike Fletcher had four goals and an assist, including the game-winning goal in overtime, an unassisted tally when he took the ball from behind the net on a restart, circled all the way around to the front, and buried a shot into the top corner. After the Bobcats went ahead 9-7, Brown started the fourth quarter on a 3-0 run to take back the lead, but junior midfielder Matt Frost stopped the run with a tying goal. The Bears went ahead once again, but freshman Sam Witt knotted it at 11-11 with just over four minutes left, and neither team could score the rest of regulation. Senior Will Vitelli was 19-27 on face-offs, including the one to start the overtime session, leading to the game-winner.
FLETCHER, VITELLI, FROST EARN MAAC HONORS
Junior attack Mike Fletcher and senior face-off specialist Will Vitelli swept the MAAC Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week awards for the Bobcats on Feb. 19 after their win over Brown. Fletcher earned his after the four-goal, one-assist effort (see above), while Vitelli earned the defensive honor after dominating at the X, winning 19 of 27 face-offs on the day. Fletcher was also named to the USILA National Team of the Week for his efforts, and was one of four nominees for the Inside Lacrosse National Player of the Week. Junior midfielder Matt Frost, a finance major who had two goals in the Brown win, was honored as the MAAC Male Student-Athlete of the Week, which highlights an athlete who excels in the classroom and who had an impact in his or her athletic competition over the previous week.
QUINNIPIAC NAMES 2018 CAPTAINS
Five seniors will share the captain duties for Quinnipiac during the 2018 season, Head Coach Eric Fekete announced in January. Defenseman Riley Palmer, long-stick midfielder Adam Bellamy, and midfielders Blaise Buffalino, Ryan Corcoran and David Glynn will serve as team captains for their final collegiate seasons.
FOUR PLAYERS HONORED IN PRESEASON BY MAAC
Four Bobcats players were chosen to the Preseason All-MAAC team, which was released on Jan. 31. Junior Foster Cuomo and senior Riley Palmer were All-MAAC selections, while senior Adam Bellamy was the Preseason Long-Stick Midfielder of the Year and senior Will Vitelli was the Preseason Face-Off Specialist of the Year. As a team, the Bobcats were picked third behind preseason favorite and defending champion Monmouth in first and Marist in second.
SENIOR CLASS
If the Bobcats are to return to the form that earned the 2016 MAAC Championship, it will be largely due to the leadership of a large senior class. Last season, Quinnipiac had only four seniors, but this year, Senior Day ceremonies will take a little longer, with a total of 14 seniors on the roster.
REPEAT FOR VITELLI
Senior face-off specialist Will Vitelli is coming off a season which saw him earn his second straight MAAC Face-Off Specialist of the Year honor. After walking onto the team as a freshman and giving face-offs a try for the first time, Vitelli had a huge sophomore year, including a game in which he was 19-19 at the X, earning him the National Player of the Week honor from Inside Lacrosse.
WHERE THERE'S A WILL
Senior face-off specialist Will Vitelli has had several games in his career where he has completely dominated his position, including his 19-19 performance at Marist as a sophomore (see above). He nearly added another perfect day on March 10 against Wagner, starting 14-14 before losing the opening face-off of the fourth quarter and finishing 15-16. Here is a look at some of his top efforts at the X over the last three seasons:

BOBCATS MAKE HISTORY IN 2016
The Bobcats had their most successful season in program history in 2016, sweeping the MAAC regular season and postseason titles with a perfect 8-0 record against conference foes, earning their first-ever NCAA Tournament bid, and picking up a win over Hartford in the NCAA preliminary round. The Bobcats are hoping to return to that form this year after missing the MAAC Tournament last spring.
NEXT UP
The Bobcats will play their home finale next Saturday when they welcome Canisius, which is also 2-0 in the MAAC so far, for a 2 p.m. contest. It will be Senior Day for the 14-member senior class (Adam Bellamy, Jason Brigagliano, Blaise Buffalino, Anthony Carchietta, Carson Cocco, Ryan Corcoran, Alex DiSalvo, Brian Feldman, David Glynn, Ryan Lawson, Joe Murphy, Riley Palmer, Mike Ruane, Will Vitelli).
