HAMDEN, Conn. — The Quinnipiac softball team has a big weekend ahead, as the fifth-place Bobcats will play host to second-place MAAC foe Fairfield with a doubleheader on Saturday, April 28 at noon.
LAST GAMES (MONMOUTH 8, QU 0; MONMOUTH 7, QU 3)
The Quinnipiac softball team fell behind early in both games of a doubleheader with MAAC-leading Monmouth and was unable to mount comebacks as it fell 8-0 and 7-3 on Sunday afternoon at Quinnipiac Softball Field. After falling to Monmouth 8-0 in game one, the Bobcats found themselves down 7-0 in game two after the top of the fifth inning. Quinnipiac put its first offensive rally together in the bottom of the fifth as senior catcher Lexi Courtney had a two-out, two-run double, and freshman second baseman Brighid Douglas drove Courtney in with an RBI single to close the gap to 7-3.
Quinnipiac tried to rally one last time in the bottom of the seventh, as senior first baseman Keala Cordeiro's infield single and an error put two runners on, but reliever Amanda Riley closed out the seventh inning with two strikeouts to help the Hawks finish off the sweep.
