HAMDEN, Conn. — With a spot in the 2018 MAAC Tournament already secure, the Quinnipiac men's lacrosse team will try to clinch the top seed when it travels to Monmouth on Friday afternoon for a 4 p.m. contest.
MAAC UPDATE
A year after narrowly missing out on the conference tournament, Quinnipiac can clinch the top seed for the second time in the last three years when it faces Monmouth. The Bobcats are 4-0 in the MAAC, with a one-game lead on Monmouth and a half-game lead on Detroit Mercy (4-1). With a win, Quinnipiac could still finish in a tie with Detroit Mercy, but would have the tiebreaker due to a head-to-head victory over the Titans. Two years ago, Quinnipiac clinched the top seed (which at the time earned the Bobcats the right to host the conference tournament) with an 8-5 win at Monmouth.
SENIOR DAY
Quinnipiac celebrated its Senior Day last weekend as part of its final regular season home game. The ceremony was a long one, as the Bobcats have a whopping 14 seniors on this year's team: Adam Bellamy, Jason Brigagliano, Blaise Buffalino, Anthony Carchietta, Carson Cocco, Ryan Corcoran, Alex DiSalvo, Brian Feldman, David Glynn, Ryan Lawson, Joe Murphy, Riley Palmer, Mike Ruane and Will Vitelli.
LAST GAME
Quinnipiac clinched a MAAC Tournament berth with a 19-14 win over Canisius on Saturday in its final home game of the regular season. The Bobcats actually had a convincing 19-7 lead in the fourth quarter before the Golden Griffins closed out on a 7-0 run to make the final score look closer. Freshman attack Jake Tomsik had four goals and two assists for a career-high six points, while junior attack Foster Cuomo had four goals and an assist.
BOBCATS TAKE TWO AWARDS
In what has been a common occurrence this year, the Bobcats were represented on the MAAC weekly awards list on Monday. Senior face-off specialist Will Vitelli won the Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this season, while freshman attack Jake Tomsik earned his third Rookie of the Week honor. Vitelli earned his award by winning 22-of-33 face-offs after celebrating his Senior Day, while tallying eight ground balls after clean face-off wins. Tomsik, meanwhile, had a team-high six points on four goals and two assists.

CUOMO EARNS PAIR OF WEEKLY HONORS
Junior attack Foster Cuomo was named the MAAC Offensive Player of the Week and earned a spot on the USILA National Team of the Week after his six-goal, two-assist effort in a March 31 at Detroit Mercy. The eight points set a new career high, breaking his previous best of seven (five goals, two assists) which he set earlier this year in a win over NJIT, after which he earned his first MAAC Offensive Player of the Week honor.
MULTI-HORSE RACE FOR TEAM SCORING LEAD
The race for the scoring lead on the Quinnipiac men's lacrosse team couldn't be much closer as we head down the home stretch of the season. The team's three starters on its attack line are 1-2-3 in scoring with Foster Cuomo (26-11-37), Jake Tomsik (21-16-37) and Mike Fletcher (22-13-35) all having big seasons and all standing within two points of each other. The race for the goal lead sees Cuomo with a narrow lead with 26, but Fletcher (22), Tomsik (21) and senior midfielder Brian Feldman (21) are all close behind.
FELDMAN JOINS CENTURY CLUB
With a second-half goal at Fairfield on March 6, senior midfielder Brian Feldman became only the fourth player in Quinnipiac history to score 100 goals in a career. The other three players to accomplish the feat reached 100 goals over a two-year span from 2001-02, meaning that Feldman's milestone is one that had not been accomplished by any Bobcat over a span of 16 years. He now has 116 career goals, one shy of a tie for third.

HOME, SWEET HOME
Quinnipiac is playing in a brand-new 1,500-seat stadium this season, and earned its first win in the new facility with a 12-11 overtime victory on Feb. 17 against nationally ranked Brown (No. 17). A year ago, the Bobcats played all five home games at Yale and lost the five games by a combined seven goals. The previous season, Quinnipiac won six games in a row on campus at its old facility, including a MAAC Championship win over Marist and an NCAA win over Hartford. Quinnipiac ended its first season in its new facility with a 6-3 home record.
GOOD START IN MAAC
Quinnipiac opened MAAC play by capturing a dramatic 12-11 win over Siena on March 17. Senior midfielder Brian Feldman had four goals, and junior midfielder Matt Frost had three goals and three assists for a career-high six points. Frost provided the game-winner with just over four minutes left when he caught a rebound out of the air behind the net after Feldman's shot was saved and then flipped in a low backhand as he reached around the front of the cage. Sophomore goalie Joe Zukauskas sealed the win with a save in the final 10 seconds.
DEFENSIVE CLINIC
Quinnipiac used a dominant defensive effort to capture an 11-3 home win over Wagner on March 10. The Bobcats did not allow a single even-strength goal the entire day, allowing only an extra-man goal in the second quarter and two on EMOs in the fourth. Sophomore goalie Joe Zukauskas had eight saves, while the close defense of Riley Palmer, Mike Ruane and Bryce Nalls helped hold the Seahawks to only 20 shot attempts in the contest.
BOBCATS DEFEAT #17 BROWN FOR FIRST WIN IN NEW STADIUM
Quinnipiac fell behind 4-0 early, regrouped to take a 9-7 lead after three quarters, and then captured a dramatic 12-11 overtime win over No. 17 Brown on Saturday, Feb. 17 for its first-ever win at the new Quinnipiac Lacrosse Stadium. Junior attack Mike Fletcher had four goals and an assist, including the game-winning goal in overtime, an unassisted tally when he took the ball from behind the net on a restart, circled all the way around to the front, and buried a shot into the top corner. After the Bobcats went ahead 9-7, Brown started the fourth quarter on a 3-0 run to take back the lead, but junior midfielder Matt Frost stopped the run with a tying goal. The Bears went ahead once again, but freshman Sam Witt knotted it at 11-11 with just over four minutes left, and neither team could score the rest of regulation. Senior Will Vitelli was 19-27 on face-offs, including the one to start the overtime session, leading to the game-winner.
REPEAT FOR VITELLI
Senior face-off specialist Will Vitelli is coming off a season which saw him earn his second straight MAAC Face-Off Specialist of the Year honor. After walking onto the team as a freshman and giving face-offs a try for the first time, Vitelli had a huge sophomore year, including a game in which he was 19-19 at the X, earning him the National Player of the Week honor from Inside Lacrosse.

Senior face-off specialist Will Vitelli has had several games in his career where he has completely dominated his position, including his 19-19 performance at Marist as a sophomore (see above). He nearly added another perfect day on March 10 against Wagner, starting 14-14 before losing the opening face-off of the fourth quarter and finishing 15-16. Five Quinnipiac seniors have shared the captain duties for the 2018 season, as announced in January by Head Coach Eric Fekete. Defenseman Riley Palmer, long-stick midfielder Adam Bellamy, and midfielders Blaise Buffalino, Ryan Corcoran and David Glynn have served as team captains for their final collegiate seasons.
FOUR PLAYERS HONORED BY MAAC IN PRESEASON
The Bobcats had four players who were chosen to the Preseason All-MAAC team, which was released on Jan. 31. Junior Foster Cuomo and senior Riley Palmer were All-MAAC selections, while senior Adam Bellamy was the Preseason Long-Stick Midfielder of the Year and senior Will Vitelli was the Preseason Face-Off Specialist of the Year. As a team, the Bobcats were picked third behind preseason favorite and defending champion Monmouth in first and Marist in second.
BOBCATS MAKE HISTORY IN 2016
The Bobcats had their most successful season in program history in 2016, sweeping the MAAC regular season and postseason titles with a perfect 8-0 record against conference foes, earning their first-ever NCAA Tournament bid, and picking up a win over Hartford in the NCAA preliminary round. The Bobcats missed the MAAC Tournament last spring.
