QU Softball Falls to Iona, 6-0 and 6-5, in Home Doubleheader

HAMDEN, Conn. - The Quinnipiac softball team dropped both games of the MAAC doubleheader to Iona at home in a 6-0 game one loss and a 6-5 game two loss that fell just short of a late-inning comeback on Friday afternoon at the QU Softball Field.

GAME ONE (Iona 6, QU 0)

Casey Herzog got the start and and took the loss.
Herzog pitched a complete game and struck out nine in the process.
Erin Larsen, Miranda Magana, Keala Cordeiro, Keilani Finley and Brighid Douglas all recorded a hit apiece in the loss.
Iona took an early lead after tallying three runs in the first inning.
The Gaels then added a run in the third, fifth and seventh inning to secure the 6-0 loss for the Bobcats.

GAME TWO (Iona 6, QU 5)

Brundrett got the start and took the loss in her outing.
Abbey Long pitched in five innings of relief for Brundrett and gave up two runs (unearned) and struck out one.
Larsen, Cordeiro and Finley all recorded multiple hits in the loss with Magana leading the way with three.
Keilani Finley and Cordeiro led the way for the Bobcats' offense with two RBI's apiece.
Magana drove in a run as well.
Iona got on the board first, scoring three runs in the top of the first.
The Bobcats responded with a run of their own after Magana launched a solo home run to dead-center to cut the deficit to 3-1.
After Iona made it a 4-1 game in the second, Quinnipiac cut the deficit to one after Finley line a first-pitch, two-run home run over the left field fence to make it a 4-3 game.
Iona was able to muster two runs in the fifth inning to make it a 6-3 game.
Quinnipiac battled back in the bottom of the seventh after a two-run double from Cordeiro made it a 6-5 game. However, the Bobcats were unable to plate another run to keep the game alive.

NEXT UP
Quinnipiac will be back in action on Saturday, April 14, when the Bobcats travel to take on MAAC-foe Marist for a doubleheader set for noon.
