HAMDEN, Conn. — The Quinnipiac men's lacrosse team, which stands alone in first in the MAAC at 3-0, will welcome Canisius College on Saturday for a 2 p.m. contest at Quinnipiac Lacrosse Stadium with a chance to clinch a berth in the MAAC Tournament. It will also be Senior Day, as the Bobcats will honor the 14 members of the Class of 2018.
MAAC UPDATE
A year after narrowly missing out on the conference tournament, the Bobcats can take away any late-season pressure from its final two road games with a win over Canisius. The Bobcats are the only unbeaten team still left in the conference and can clinch a bid to the MAAC Tournament with a win over the Golden Griffins. A win would leave the Bobcats at 4-0, with two games remaining, and at least one of the five MAAC teams battling for the four spots in the postseason will finish with at least three losses if Quinnipiac hands Canisius its second. Two years ago, the Bobcats went undefeated through the MAAC schedule (6-0 in the regular season, 2-0 in the postseason) on its way to its first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance.
SENIOR DAY
Quinnipiac is celebrating its Senior Day this weekend as part of its final regular season home game. The ceremony will take longer than most, as the Bobcats have a whopping 14 seniors on this year's team: Adam Bellamy, Jason Brigagliano, Blaise Buffalino, Anthony Carchietta, Carson Cocco, Ryan Corcoran, Alex Di Salvo, Brian Feldman, David Glynn, Ryan Lawson, Joe Murphy, Riley Palmer, Mike Ruane and Will Vitelli.
LAST GAME
Quinnipiac moved alone into first place in the MAAC with a 9-5 win over Manhattan on Saturday. The Bobcats did almost all of their offensive damage in the first 15 minutes, taking a 7-2 lead at the end of the first quarter. Quinnipiac maintained the five-goal lead into the break at 9-4, and then held on through a second half in which only on goal was scored. Junior attack Mike Fletcher had three goals and three assists to lead the offense, while senior long-stick midfielder Adam Bellamy had seven ground balls and four caused turnovers to lead the defense.
BOBCATS TAKE TWO AWARDS
Junior attack Fletcher was named the MAAC Offensive Player of the Week and senior long-stick midfielder Adam Bellamy earned the Defensive Player of the Week on Monday for their performances in last Saturday's win over Manhattan (see above). They continued a trend of frequent awards for the Bobcats this spring, as six different players have been honored a total of nine times by the league, including two Offensive Player of the Week Awards for Fletcher and junior attack Foster Cuomo, and two Rookie of the Week honors for freshman attack Jake Tomsik. Senior face-off specialist Will Vitelli and Adam Bellamy have won Defensive Player of the Week honors once apiece, and junior midfielder Matt Frost picked up a Student-Athlete of the Week Award.
CUOMO EARNS PAIR OF WEEKLY HONORS
Junior attack Foster Cuomo was named the MAAC Offensive Player of the Week and earned a spot on the USILA National Team of the Week, after his six-goal, two-assist effort in last Saturday's win at Detroit Mercy. The eight points set a new career high, breaking his previous best of seven (five goals, two assists) which he set earlier this year in a win over NJIT, after which he earned his first MAAC Offensive Player of the Week honor.
TOMSIK WINS SECOND MAAC ROOKIE OF WEEK
Freshman attack Jake Tomsik was named the MAAC Rookie of the Week for the second time this season on March 18, after tallying a goal and three assists in a win over Siena. He also earned it after a strong effort in his collegiate debut against UMass Lowell back on Feb. 11, when he finished the game with four goals, scoring on all four of his shot attempts. He added two more goals against both Brown and Vermont to start his career with three straight multi-goal games.
MULTI-HORSE RACE FOR TEAM SCORING LEAD
The race for the scoring lead on the Quinnipiac men's lacrosse team couldn't be much closer as we head down the home stretch of the season. The team's three starters on its attack line are 1-2-3 in scoring with Foster Cuomo (22-10-32), Mike Fletcher (19-12-31) and Jake Tomsik (17-14-31) all having big seasons and all standing within one point of each other.
FELDMAN JOINS CENTURY CLUB
With a second-half goal at Fairfield on March 6, senior midfielder Brian Feldman became only the fourth player in Quinnipiac history to score 100 goals in a career. The other three players to accomplish the feat did it over a two-year span from 2001-02, meaning that Feldman's milestone is one that had not been accomplished by any Bobcat over a span of 16 years. He now has 113 career goals, four shy of moving into a tie for third.

HOME, SWEET HOME
Quinnipiac is playing in a brand new 1,500-seat stadium this season, and earned its first win in the new facility with a 12-11 overtime victory on Feb. 17 against nationally ranked Brown (No. 17). A year ago, the Bobcats played all five home games at Yale, and lost the five games by a combined seven goals. The previous season, Quinnipiac won six games in a row on campus at its old facility, including a MAAC Championship win over Marist and an NCAA win over Hartford. Quinnipiac is currently 5-3 in its first eight games in its new stadium with the final regular season one this weekend..
GOOD START IN MAAC
Quinnipiac opened MAAC play by capturing a dramatic 12-11 win over Siena on March 17. Senior midfielder Brian Feldman had four goals, and junior midfielder Matt Frost had three goals and three assists for a career-high six points. Frost provided the game-winner with just over four minutes left when he caught a rebound out of the air behind the net after Feldman's shot was saved and then flipped in a low backhand as he reached around the front of the cage. Sophomore goalie Joe Zukauskas sealed the win with a save in the final 10 seconds.
DEFENSIVE CLINIC
Quinnipiac used a dominant defensive effort to capture an 11-3 home win over Wagner on March 10. The Bobcats did not allow a single even-strength goal the entire day, allowing only an extra-man goal in the second quarter and two on EMOs in the fourth. Sophomore goalie Joe Zukauskas had eight saves, while the close defense of Riley Palmer, Mike Ruane, and Bryce Nalls helped hold the Seahawks to only 20 shot attempts in the contest.
BOBCATS DEFEAT #17 BROWN FOR FIRST WIN IN NEW STADIUM
Quinnipiac fell behind 4-0 early, regrouped to take a 9-7 lead after three quarters, and then captured a dramatic 12-11 overtime win over No. 17 Brown on Saturday, Feb. 17 for its first-ever win at the new Quinnipiac Lacrosse Stadium. Junior attack Mike Fletcher had four goals and an assist, including the game-winning goal in overtime, an unassisted tally when he took the ball from behind the net on a restart, circled all the way around to the front, and buried a shot into the top corner. After the Bobcats went ahead 9-7, Brown started the fourth quarter on a 3-0 run to take back the lead, but junior midfielder Matt Frost stopped the run with a tying goal. The Bears went ahead once again, but freshman Sam Witt knotted it at 11-11 with just over four minutes left, and neither team could score the rest of regulation. Senior Will Vitelli was 19-27 on face-offs, including the one to start the overtime session, leading to the game-winner.
REPEAT FOR VITELLI
Senior face-off specialist Will Vitelli is coming off a season which saw him earn his second straight MAAC Face-Off Specialist of the Year honor. After walking onto the team as a freshman and giving face-offs a try for the first time, Vitelli had a huge sophomore year, including a game in which he was 19-19 at the X, earning him the National Player of the Week honor from Inside Lacrosse.
WHERE THERE'S A WILL
Senior face-off specialist Will Vitelli has had several games in his career where he has completely dominated his position, including his 19-19 performance at Marist as a sophomore (see above). He nearly added another perfect day on March 10 against Wagner, starting 14-14 before losing the opening face-off of the fourth quarter and finishing 15-16.
