
Cameron Young Breaks Single-Season Scoring Record, But Fairfield Ends QU Men's Basketball's Run

ALBANY, N.Y. – Senior guard Cameron Young had 24 points and seven rebounds, while breaking Quinnipiac's single-season Division I scoring record (finishing with 622), but Fairfield was able to withstand a Bobcat comeback and take a 74-64 win over the Bobcats on Sunday evening in the semifinals of the MAAC Tournament at the Times Union Center.
Quinnipiac led twice in the game, at 6-5 and then 54-53 with 6:06 to go after coming back from a 12-point deficit, but Jerome Segura gave the Stags the lead for good with a three-point play with 4:10 left, making the score 60-57, and Fairfield shot 19-19 from the foul line to seal it.

GAME NOTES
- Senior guard Cameron Young broke the Quinnipiac single-season scoring record on a putback late in the first half, giving him 608 career points, breaking the old mark of 607 held by DeMario Anderson (2007-08) before finishing the game with 622.
- Young set the scoring record after not scoring a single point as a junior last winter, playing only eight minutes all year and shooting 0-4.
- The Bobcats got off to a slow start in the first half on offense and trailed by as many as 12, but were able to get the lead down to 37-30 at the break on a driving layup from Young.
- Quinnipiac got as close as two points early in the second half at 41-39 and had a three-pointer in the air to take the lead, but Fairfield was able to use a 7-2 run to go back up 48-41 with 11:37 left.
- The Bobcats continued to fight back and got back to within three points on a running bank shot from junior guard Aaron Robinson at 49-46.
- Tyler Nelson hit a tough contested three-pointer over senior guard Isaiah Washington to give Fairfield a 53-47 lead, but Washington came right back down the other way and knocked down a three to close to 53-50 with 8:10 to play. Freshman guard Rich Kelly then had a fast break lay-up to cut it to 53-52 at the 7:03 mark.
- Two Young foul shots with 6:06 left then gave the Bobcats their first lead since 6-5 at 54-53.
- With the score tied 57-57, Jerome Segura hit a tough driving bank shot and drew a foul with 4:11 to go to put the Stags ahead by three.
- Fairfield sealed the game at the foul line, where they were 19-19 in the second half and 21-22 for the game. Nelson made six in a row and Ferron Flavors, Jr. followed with six in a row
- Quinnipiac and Fairfield split during the regular season with the Stags taking a 102-98 double overtime win in the second meeting on Feb. 17.
