At 2:49 into overtime of the CWHL Championship, Bobcat alumna Nicole Kosta '16 (Mississauga, Ontario) intercepted a breakout pass, transitioned to the net and fed a backhand pass to teammate Laura Stacey, who beat the Kunlun Red Star goaltender high over her glove to capture a 2-1 victory and the Markham Thunder's first-ever Clarkson Cup.
Former Bobcat teammate Nicole Brown '16 (Oshawa, Ontario) scored the opening goal of the contest at 8:24 of the first period with an assist from Kosta and Cornell alum Laura Fortino. Kosta's two assists led all scorers and Brown earned 2nd-Star Honors in the championship game played in front a very vocal crowd at Toronto's Ricoh Coliseum.
The two Bobcats are no strangers to championship moments. As members of the fabled "Nicole Line," Nicole Brown and Nicole Kosta, along with Nicole Connery '16 (Mississauga, Ontario) led the Bobcats to their first-ever ECAC Championship in the spring of 2016 with Brown scoring the only goal in a 1-0 victory over Clarkson University. Kosta, known for her skating and impact at both ends of the ice, finished her Bobcat career as the program's second all-time leading scorer, registering 39 goals and 84 helpers for 123 points.
A celebration of hockey at the highest level, Rogers Sportsnet broadcast the Canadian Women's Hockey League Championship live throughout Canada. The Markham Thunder included three Canadian Olympians who earned Silver Medals in Pyeongchang this February. One of the founding members of the CWHL, the Thunder moved to Markham from Brampton, Ontario this past summer. Along with the US-based National Women's Hockey League (NWHL), the league represents the highest level of professional female hockey in the world. Nicole Brown (left) and Nicole Kosta hold the trophy

The victory capped another fantastic year for Bobcats in the professional ranks. Shiann Darkangelo '15 (Brighton, MI) - Kunlun Red Star, Emma Woods (Burford, Ontario) - Vanke Rays, and Taryn Baumgardt '16 (Innisfail, Alberta) - Calgary Inferno played on teams in the CWHL. Six former Bobcats - Kelly Babstock '14, Laura Brennan '07, Emma Greco '17, Elena Orlando '14, Cydney Roesler '16, and Sydney Rossman '17 - competed for the Connecticut Whale during the 2017-18 NWHL Season. Babstock and Rossman represented the Whale at the NWHL All-Star Game held in St. Paul, Minnesota on February 11, 2018. Erica Uden Johansson '15 (Sundsvall, Sweden) who represented her country for the third time in the Olympic Games competed for Brynas IK in Sweden's SDHL.
