Bobcats Open ECAC Hockey Championship First Round Series With 5-1 Win At Yale

NEW HAVEN, Connecticut – The Quinnipiac men's ice hockey team is one step closer to advancing in the ECAC Hockey tournament with a 5-1 victory over Yale on Friday night at Ingalls Rink in New Haven, Connecticut. The Bobcats picked up the fifteenth win of the 2017-18 season. They will need one more to advance to the ECAC Hockey Tournament Quarterfinals.

- 13:32 1st Period (Yale 1, Quinnipiac 0): Ryan Hitchcock beat Keith Petruzzelli with a wrister from in close after he and Tyler Welsh beat a two-on-one. Welsh received the puck around the blue line after a pass from Chandler Lindstrand in Yale's zone.
- 2:09 2nd Period (Quinnipiac 1, Yale 1): Freshman Joe O'Connor (Hamden, Connecticut) found the back of the net while sliding through the slot after a beautiful spinning assist from senior Tanner MacMaster (Calgary, Alberta).
- 2:41 3rd Period (Quinnipiac 2, Yale 1): Junior captain Chase Priskie (Pembroke Pines, Florida) blasted a slap shot from the slot that got through Sam Tucker following a pass by junior Scott Davidson (Trail, British Columbia) from the left circle.
- 8:43 3rd Period (Quinnipiac 3, Yale 1): Senior assistant captain Kevin McKernan (Millbury, Massachusetts) snuck the puck past Tucker from the left post after receiving passes from freshman Matt Forchuck (Okotoks, Alberta) and junior Craig Martin (Trail, British Columbia).
- 18:38 3rd Period (Quinnipiac 4, Yale 1): Alex Whelan (Ramsey, New Jersey) scored on an empty-netter after receiving the puck from Bo Pieper (Roseville, Minnesota), who was fed from Kevin Duane (New Canaan, Connecticut).
- 19:22 3rd Period (Quinnipiac 5, Yale 1): Quinnipiac had a two-on-one opportunity after Scott Davidson (Trail, British Colombia) skated the puck up the wing and flicked a wrister past the Yale goalie.
- Priskie scored his tenth goal of the season and his second game-winner on the campaign.
- McKernan potted his third goal of the year and the 12th of his Bobcat career.
- O'Connor netted his second career goal and became the first player from Hamden to score for the Bobcats in the postseason as a Division I program.
- For the last three years, a freshman has scored the first goal of the postseason for Quinnipiac: O'Connor tonight, sophomore Alex Whelan (Ramsey, New Jersey) last year against Brown, and junior Scott Davidson in 2016 against Cornell.
- MacMaster picked up his 19th helper of the season, and now has 53 career assists. The senior now has 31 points for the year and 82 for his career.
- Davidson tallied his seventh assist of the season, the 21st apple of his career.
- Forchuck recorded the seventh assist of his career.
- Martin assisted on his ninth goal of the season. He now has 28 assists while at Quinnipiac.
- Whelan's goal was his 15th of the season, which leads the team.
- Pieper's helper on Whelan's goal was his seventh of the season, while it was the sixth of the season for Duane.
- Davidson's goal was his third of the season and it was his first multi-point performance this season.
- Freshman Keith Petruzzelli (Wilbraham, Massachusetts) earned the victory in his first playoff appearance. He made 21 saves.
- Quinnipiac is now 35-5 in the 40 games they have scored 3 or more goals in the ECAC tournament.
