HAMDEN, Connecticut - The Quinnipiac baseball team continues their season opening road trip with a pair of games against the College of Charleston on Tuesday and Wednesday night. This series with the Cougars will be the Bobcats first two-game set of the season.
LAST WEEKEND IN VIRGINIA
Offense was the name of the game in Game 1 of last weekend's series with Old Dominion. Junior Liam Scafariello belted his first home run of the year and drove home a pair of runs. Sophomore Evan Vulgamore led the team with three hits and also had 2 RBI. Senior Anthony Cruz also had a pair of hits and picked up a pair of runs batted in. The Bobcats had 14 hits for the game and batted .400 with two outs. Senior Taylor Luciani picked up his second win of the season, throwing 5 innings and allowing only a pair of earned runs. Senior Mike Davis collected his first save of 2018 campaign, recording six outs. The Bobcats took Game 1, 8-6.
Graduate student Brandon Shileikis was on the bump for Game 2, and he did not disappoint. The right-hander dealt for seven complete innings, allowing only a pair of runs on six hits while fanning three batters. Shileikis earned his second win of the season. Offensively, junior Brian Moskey got things started in the fifth inning with a solo home run, his second homer of the season. Not to be outdone, senior Ben Gibson would lift a solo blast of his own in the inning with two outs, giving Quinnipiac a 2-1 lead. Evan Vulgamore would give the Quinnipiac the lead for good with an RBI single in the top of the next frame. Liam Scafariello would add some insurance later in the inning with an RBI single of his own. Mike Davis earned his second save in as many days. The final score was 5-2.
Quinnipiac fell to Old Dominion in the series finale. Junior Tyler Poulin allowed seven runs (two earned) 5.1 innings work. Sophomore Dylan Lutz and freshman Colton Bender each had two hits.
