Saint Peter's Prevails in Defensive Struggle 52-43 to Spoil QU Men's Basketball's Senior Day

HAMDEN, Conn. - The Saint Peter's men's basketball team held Quinnipiac without a field goal for the first 10 minutes of the game to lead wire-to-wire and capture a 52-43 win over the Bobcats in their home finale at the TD Bank Sports Center on Friday evening. The loss spoiled the Senior Day for Quinnipiac's four seniors, Alain Chigha (Yaounde, Cameroon), Chaise Daniels (Meriden, Conn.), Greg Tarca (Montgomery, N.J.) and Cameron Young (Los Angeles, Calif.), who were honored prior to the game.

- Quinnipiac had its lowest scoring game of the season, after the previous low was 55 against Wake Forest on Nov. 18.
- The Bobcats played in a game with 95 total points, one game after playing in a contest that had 200 points (a 102-98 double-overtime defeat at Fairfield on Saturday).
- Quinnipiac didn't make a field goal until senior Chaise Daniels (Meriden, Conn.) had a 10-foot baseline jumper roll around and in with 9:54 left in the first half to make the score 11-4. The Bobcats missed their first 13 shots prior to Daniels' make.
- A three-pointer from freshman forward Jacob Rigoni (Adelaide, Australia) brought the Bobcats within 13-7 at the 8:59 mark, but the Peacocks answered with a 9-2 run to take a 22-9 lead.
- Two foul shots from senior guard Cameron Young (Los Angeles, Calif.) had the Bobcats within nine points at the half (28-19). The previous low that Quinnipiac had in a first half this season was 20 points against Rider.
- A lay-up from junior forward Abdulai Bundu (Upper Marlboro, Md.) brought the deficit to six points at 32-26 with 11:04 to go, but Saint Peter's went on a 9-1 run to take a 41-27 lead on a Nick Griffin lay-up.
- Cameron Young had a double-double on his Senior Day with 16 points and 11 rebounds.
- Chaise Daniels had three blocked shots on his Senior Day to move alone into second place on Quinnipiac's all-time blocked shots list (all divisions) with 147.
- Alain Chigha had four steals on his Senior Day, matching his second-highest total of the season, behind only the seven he had against Maine on Nov. 26.
- Former walk-on Greg Tarca played the last 20 seconds on his Senior Day and ended up with a lay-up after Chigha knocked the ball free in the backcourt. He also earned his first career start and drew a charge on the first possession of the game.
