ABILENE, Texas - The Quinnipiac baseball team rallied for five runs in the top of the ninth inning on Friday night, but the Bobcats fell to the Abilene Christian University Wildcats, 10-9, in their season opener. Andre Marrero led Quinnipiac offensively with three hits and a run batted in, followed by Julius Saporito and Liam Scafariello.

NOTES

Down 10-4 to start the top of the 9th inning, the Bobcats rally started when junior Liam Scafariello (Southington, Connecticut) laced a one-out bases loaded double down the left field line, bringing home two runs.
Freshman Colton Bender (Lebanon, Connecticut) then sent a sacrifice fly to right field to score another Bobcat.
With two outs, senior Julius Saporito (Manalapan, New Jersey) sent a double into the left-center gap, plating Scafariello and bringing the deficit to two.
Saporito would score because of a fielding error, bringing the score to 10-9, but the rally would end there.
Sophomore Andre Marrero (West Springfield, Massachusetts) got the first hit of the season for the Bobcats when he laced a leadoff double.
Marrero went 3-4 on the day with an RBI and a walk.
Saporito also had a multi-hit game (double, single) and drove in a run.
Freshman Ian Ostberg (Northampton, Massachusetts) had two singles in his first game as a Bobcat.
Junior Brian Moskey (Higganum, Connecticut), sophomore Dylan Lutz (Denver, Colorado), and Bender each picked up their first RBI of the season.
Senior Taylor Luciani (Berlin, Connecticut) got the start on the bump for Quinnipiac. He went four innings, giving up seven runs on nine hits.
Freshman Arthur Correira (Rehoboth, Massachusetts) made his Quinnipiac debut and pitched two innings in relief. He allowed two runs on five hits.
Senior Mike DellaMedaglia (Somers, New York) was the final Bobcat hurler, also throwing two innings in relief. He gave up only one run on four hits.

The Bobcats return to action tomorrow at 2:00 PM Central, 3:00 PM Eastern Time against Abilene Christian for the second game of their three game series.
