GAME LINKS
Fresh off the highest single-game scoring total in program history, the Quinnipiac women's soccer team comes into Wednesday's match against Siena flying high as these two MAAC powers are set to clash in a big afternoon showdown. Quinnipiac (4-4, 1-0 MAAC) erased an extended losing streak against the Saints (4-4, 0-1 MAAC) on the biggest stage last season, topping Siena 1-0 in the MAAC Semifinals to overcome what was an eight-game winless streak (0-7-1) against Siena. Now the Bobcats are set to take on a motivated Siena squad that was picked fourth in the MAAC Preseason Coaches' Poll and own a three-game unbeaten streak against the Bobcats in Hamden (2-0-1).
LAST GAME RECAP
Quinnipiac put on the greatest offensive performance in program history on Saturday, scoring a program record 11 goals in a 11-0 demolition of Saint Peter's from Jaroschak Field. Eight different Bobcats scored in the convincing victory while Nadya Gill (three goals, three assists) and Kelsey Goldring (two goals, three assists) combined for 17 points to lead the way offensively. In the win, Quinnipiac picks up a win in their MAAC opener for just the second time since joining the league in 2013.
DOUBLING UP
Nadya Gill (Offensive Player of the Week) and Kelsey Goldring (Rookie of the Week) both won a MAAC weekly award as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon. Gill notched 10 points (three goals, four assists) through two games last week including a nine-point outburst in the 11-0 win over Saint Peter's on Saturday to become the first two-time MAAC Offensive Player of the Week award winner this season. Goldring, meanwhile, racked up seven points in Saturday's win as she posted the second-most points in a single-game by a Bobcat rookie in program history.
NOTES on 11-Goal Win at Saint Peter's
- Quinnipiac's previous single-game scoring record came in a 9-1 win over Wagner back in the 1999 season (Dave Clarke's first as head coach)
- Prior to the win, Quinnipiac's previous high for goals scored in a MAAC game was four (accomplished twice)
- Eight different players scored at least one goal while the Bobcats saw 14 different players register at least one point on the day
- Three Bobcats – Lauren Azzolino, Sophia Melendez and Estefy Estrada Zavala – scored their first career goals
- Caroline DeBonis recorded her first career point with an assist on Grunstein's tally
- Gill ups her point streak to four straight games while she came one point shy of matching the single-game point record at Quinnipiac (Furtuna Velaj '12 tallied 10 points for the single-game record)
- Both Gill and Goldring dished out three assists which ties them with two other players (Ally Grunstein, Sharon Polastry) for the most assists by a Bobcat in a single-game in program history
- Quinnipiac's 19 assists sets a record for most helpers in a single-game in program history
- Olivia Myszewski recorded two saves in net for her second clean sheet of the season and fifth of her career
- Quinnipiac fired a season high 27 shots (23 on-target) for the match and now sit with easily the top scoring offense in the MAAC (2.88 goals per game) and ranked seventh in the nation
- Currently averaging 3.88 assists per game, Quinnipiac ranks second in the nation in that category
NOTES
- Nadya Gill comes into Wednesday's match leading the MAAC and ranking second in the nation in points per game (2.75) as well as fifth in goals per game (1.00) and sixth in assists per game (0.75)
- Gill notched her fourth career multi-goal game in the win over Saint Peter's on Saturday as she continues to lead the MAAC in goals (eight) in 2017
- Kelsey Goldring currently sits 33rd in the nation in points per game (1.75) as well as sixth in assists per game (0.75)
- Olivia Myszewski's 11 saves in the 3-1 loss to Miami are not only good enough for a career high but also stand as the most posted by a Quinnipiac keeper in a single-game since Kendra Margulies made 13 stops against Lehigh on Sept. 13, 2009
- Miraculously, Quinnipiac's offense has ranked first in the MAAC (currently eighth in the nation) all season despite averaging 10.13 shots per game (256th in the nation, 7th in the MAAC)
- The source of that offensive production has come all over the lineup as four Bobcats (Nadya Gill, Kelsey Goldring, Madison Borowiec and Al Pelletier) have at least 10 points apiece (all have at least three goals and four assists) through eight games
- No team in MAAC history has had more than two players ranked consecutively atop the conference scoring total leaderboard at the end of a season
- Quinnipiac saw their 11-game home win streak come to an end with the 3-1 loss to Miami. That 11-game run combining their undefeated 2016 home mark (9-0) with a perfect 2-0 start to 2017 gave the Bobcats their second-longest home winning streak in program history (record 12 straight home wins between 2000-01 seasons)
