
QU Women's Ice Hockey's Kosta, Baumgardt, Darkangelo and Woods Selected In CWHL Draft

TORONTO, Ontario – Quinnipiac women's ice hockey was well represented in the 2017 Canadian Women's Hockey League (CWHL) Draft as four former Bobcats were selected. Highlighting the list were Nicole Kosta and Taryn Baumgardt, who were both taken in the first round, while Shiann Darkangelo and Emma Woods were also selected.
Kosta was the first Bobcat off the board when the Markham Thunder selected her with the third pick of the draft. Kosta suited up for the NWHL's CT Whale in 2016-17, totaling 17 points on the strength of six goals and 11 assists in 18 games played. A three-time All-ECAC Hockey Third Team selection, Kosta completed her Quinnipiac career in 2015-16 with 39 goals and 84 assists for 123 points in 137 games played and was just the third player in Quinnipiac women's ice hockey history to reach 100 career points.
Baumgardt completed a four-year career with the Bobcats in 2016-17, earning All-ECAC Hockey Third Team honors as a senior. Baumgardt scored six goals and assisted on 11 more for 17 points as senior, while also posting a team-leading +20. Baumgardt accumulated 12 goals and 31 assists for 43 points while also setting the program record for games played with 150. Baumgardt was also named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District At-Large First Team.
Darkangelo was selected in the third round of the draft with the 20th overall pick by the Kunlun Red Star, one of the CWHL's two newest teams based in China. Darkangelo has played in the NWHL for the past two seasons, originally with the CT Whale in 2015-16 before joining the Buffalo Beauts in 2016-17. With the Whale, Darkangelo averaged a point-per-game with 10 goals and three assists in 13 games played. Last year, Darkangelo scored seven times and assisted on five more goals for 12 points in 16 games with the Beauts. Darkangelo previously competed with Team USA at the 2016 IIHF Women's World Championship.
For her career at Quinnipiac, Darkangelo tallied 102 points and was the second player in Quinnipiac women's ice hockey history to record her 100th point while wearing a Bobcat uniform. At Quinnipiac, Darkangelo registered 33 goals and 27 assists for 60 points after putting 23 goals and 19 assists for 42 points in her first two seasons at Syracuse. Her 33 goals at Quinnipiac are tied for 10th in program history.
Woods was selected in the seventh round of the draft when the league's other China-based program, the Vanke Rays, used the 49th overall pick to select the Bobcats' captain. Woods completed a four-year career in 2016-17 in which she compiled 47 goals and 59 assists for 106 points in 149 games played. Last season, Woods found the back of the net 12 times while also assisting on 11 more for 23 points in 36 games. As a junior in 2015-16, Woods was named to the All-ECAC Hockey Third Team after posting career-highs in assists (23) and points (34).
