2017-18 Quinnipiac Men's Basketball Schedule
HAMDEN, Conn. - The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference released its 2017-18 league schedule this morning, and for the second straight season, Quinnipiac will open league play with a home game against defending regular season champion Monmouth.
The Bobcats' MAAC opener will be held at the TD Bank Sports Center on Dec. 28 against Monmouth, which will be followed by a road game at Siena on New Year's Day. It will be the only meeting between Monmouth and Quinnipiac this season, as the MAAC has changed to an 18-game schedule, down from the full double round-robin 20-game schedule that it has played in the past. Quinnipiac will also meet Iona only once this season, traveling to face the Gaels on Friday, February 2.
Another quirk in the schedule this season is that the Bobcats will sacrifice one of their home games to participate in a MAAC tripleheader at Nassau Coliseum on Long Island on Saturday, Jan. 27. Quinnipiac and Fairfield will meet in one of three MAAC contests as part of the event (along with Monmouth-Marist and Iona-Manhattan), while the other meeting between the two Connecticut rivals will be at Fairfield on Saturday, Feb. 17. If recent history is any indication, that could be a benefit to the Bobcats, as the road team has strangely won the last seven games in the series between the schools, with Fairfield winning the last two meetings at the TD Bank Sports Center in overtime. Next year, the teams will return to Nassau Coliseum again with Fairfield serving as the home team.
After facing Siena on New Year's Day, the Bobcats will host Canisius on Friday, Jan. 5 and turn around quickly for a road game at Saint Peter's on Sunday, Jan. 7. The Bobcats will then have three of their next four games at home, entertaining Marist on Wednesday, Jan. 10, Niagara on Thursday, Jan. 18 and Siena on Sunday, Jan. 21 (around a road game at Rider on Jan. 12).
The next three games will be played away from Hamden, as Quinnipiac travels to Marist on Thursday, Jan. 25 before its game at Nassau Coliseum against Fairfield, and then has its lone game against Iona on Feb. 2.
Sunday, Feb. 4 will be the first home game for the Bobcats after the start of the second semester as Rider visits the TD Bank Sports Center. Quinnipiac will then make its annual two-game Buffalo trip, meeting Niagara on Feb. 8 and Canisius on Feb. 10.
The final stretch of the regular season will feature two games with Manhattan, a home contest on Feb. 15 and a road contest in the finale on Feb. 25. In between, the Bobcats have a road game at Fairfield, and their home finale against Saint Peter's on Friday, Feb. 23. The MAAC Tournament gets underway on March 1 at the Times Union Center in Albany, with all 10 teams qualifying.
All dates are subject to change when adjusted to accommodate television schedules.
