HAMDEN, Conn. - The Quinnipiac softball team was able to sweep MAAC rival Rider, 5-2 and 2-0, on Monday afternoon at the QU Softball Field.

With he wins, Quinnipiac moves to 14-15 (3-1 MAAC) on the season, while Rider drops to 3-22 (0-4 MAAC).

Casey Herzog (Wappinger Falls, New York) led Quinnipiac to the game one win, going the distance and giving up just one earned run, while striking out five. Lexi Courtney (Scappoose, oregon, Erin Larsen (Kissimmee, Florida), Sarah Heimbach (Greenwich, New York) and Emily Czaja (Palmer, Massachusetts) all recorded RBIs in the win.

It was a pitcher's duel up until the fourth inning, where Quinnipiac rallied to put three runs on the board. With one out in the inning, Rebecca Drake (Whiting, New Jersey) and Keala Cordeiro (Huntington Beach, California) hit back to back singles to put runners on first and second for Courtney. Courtney then doubled to left center, scoring Drake to give the Bobcats a 1-0 lead. Larsen then dropped a bunt for a suicide squeeze, which worked to perfection as Cordeiro scored and everyone else was safe. Heimbach then stepped to the plate and was able to reach on an error, scoring Courtney to give the Bobcats a 3-0 lead.

Herzog had a no-hitter going into the fourth, but gave up a few hits and two runs in the inning, however, that would be the runs that Herzog would give up.

Quinnipiac would go on to add two more runs in the game due to Rider errors.

In game two, Abbey Long (Eau Claire, Wisconsin) took to the mound and tossed a gem. Long threw a complete-game shutout without walking a batter and striking out seven.

Miranda Magana (Santa Paula, California) hit a solo home run in the first inning to give Quinnipiac a 1-0 lead and Drake hit an RBI double to left in the third to secure the 2-0 win for the Bobcats.

The Bobcats will be back in action on Sunday, April 9, in a doubleheader against Monmouth on the road, as the doubleheader originally scheduled for Tuesday, April 4, against Sacred Heart has been postponed to Tuesday, April 11, due to impending weather.
