HAMDEN, Connecticut – The Quinnipiac University baseball team took both games of a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference doubleheader, 2-0 and 4-2, against Marist to complete the three-game series sweep at the QU Baseball Field in Hamden, Conn. With the sweep, the Bobcats get back to .500 in MAAC play at 3-3 while they also improve to 10-14 overall. Marist drops to 12-11 overall and 2-4 in conference play.
Dominant pitching was the defining characteristic of the day for the Bobcats who received back-to-back gems from Robbie Hitt (Suffield, Connecticut) and Wyatt Hamilton (Falmouth, Massachusetts). Hitt and the Bobcats' bullpen handed Marist its first shutout in 66 games dating back to Mar. 11, 2016 when the Red Foxes lost 3-0 to Virginia Commonwealth. It was also the first time Marist was blanked in MAAC play in 27 games, dating back to a 2-0 loss to Iona on Mar. 29, 2015.
Hitt scattered four hits over six dominant innings before Matthew Oseija (Wykoff, New Jersey) retired the only batter he faced and Mike Davis picked up his fourth save of the year. In Game 2, Hamilton was masterful in allowing just three hits over six scoreless innings before Chris Enns (Canton, Connecticut) pitched a scoreless seventh. Nick Paasch (Tolland, Connecticut) gave up two unearned runs before Oseija pitched a perfect eighth and Davis retired the final two batters of the game for his fifth save.
Ryan Nelson (Knoxville, Tennessee) had four hits in the doubleheader, including a 3-for-4 showing in the second game that featured his second home run of the season. Liam Scafafiello (Southington, Connecticut) homered for the second-straight game in Game 1 and became the 12th player in Quinnipiac history to hit 10 home runs in a season, doing so in just 24 games. Brian Moskey (Higganum, Connecticut) and Anthony Cruz (Burlington, Massachusetts) both collected three hits in the twin bill.
