MAAC MATCH-UPS
The Quinnipiac softball team is back in action this weekend as it is slated to travel to take on Niagara in a doubleheader on Saturday, followed by a doubleheader against Canisius on Sunday.
LAST TIME VS. NIAGARA
The Bobcats swept Niagara in two games last season, winning 5-0 and 3-0. In game two, Casey Herzog (Wappinger Falls, New York) tossed a complete game shutout, striking out 11 batters in the process.
SCOUTING THE PURPLE EAGLES
Niagara owns an 15-21 record this season and is 6-6 in MAAC play. Niagara offense is lead by Kendall Watkins, who boasts a .323 batting average, with six homers and 19 RBIs.
LAST TIME VS CANISIUS
The last time Quinnipiac took on Canisius, it defeated the Golden Griffins, 2-0 in the first round of the MAAC Tournament. It was the program's first win in MAAC Tournament history. Erin Larsen (Kissimmee, Florida) chipped in an RBI double in the win.
SCOUTING THE GOLDEN GRIFFINS
Canisius owns an 18-29 record, and is 6-8 record against MAAC opponents. Lauren Castro leads Canisius' offense with a .331 batting average with seven homers and 40 RBI.
LAST TIME OUT
Last time the Bobcats took the field, they split with Siena, losing game one, 10-6 and winning game two 2-1. Lexi Courtney (Scappoose, Oregon) hit a solo home run in game two and Emily Czaja (Palmer, Massachusetts) hit a walk-off double in the bottom of the seventh.
HOME COOKIN'
The Bobcats own a 10-2 record at home this season and have won seven straight at the QU Softball Field.
THE LONG WAY
Abbey Long (Eau Claire, Wisconsin) has had an impressive campaign so far in her freshman season. Long leads the pitching staff with 11 wins and owns a 2.80 ERA over 115 innings pitched.
NEARLY UNHITTABLE
Casey Herzog (Wappinger Falls, New York) has been impressive in her junior campaign, sporting eight wins with a 3.49 ERA and 83 strikeouts over 122.1 innings.
MORE LIFE
Rebecca Drake (Whiting, New Jersey) has injected life into Quinnipiac's lineup this season. Drake boasts a team-best .397 batting average and has slugged four homers and driven in 25 runs. Drake also boasts an incredible .588 slugging percentage.
MARVELOUS MAGANA
Miranda Magana (Santa Paula, California) has been one of the team's most consistent hitters so far this season. In 42 games, Magana has an impressive .336 batting average with a team-high six home runs and 21 RBIs.
ROUGHING THE RIGHTIES
Drake and Magana have hammered right-handed pitching so far this season. Drake is 46-for-115 (.400) against righties, while Magana is 38-for-119 (.319) against righties.
