The loss snaps the Bobcats three-game win streak and brings their record to 14-24 (7-8 MAAC), while Hartford improves to 15-19.
Evan Vulgamore (Bow, New Hampshire) went 3-for-4 with an RBI, Ryan Nelson (Knoxville, Tennessee) added two hits and an RBI as well and Joseph Burns (Shelton, Connecticut) hit a solo home run.
Hartford got on the board first after tallying three runs in the first two innings, however, the Bobcats tallied three runs in the fourth inning to tie the contest.
In that fourth inning, Burns launched his fourth homer of the season over the left field fence to put the Bobcats on the board. Matthew Batten (Shelton, Connecticut) followed with a walk, then stole second. The steal was Batten's 65th of his career, which is a program-record.
Liam Scafariello (Southington, Connecticut) drew a walk, then Matthew Oestreicher (North Haven, Connecticut) grounded out, setting up runners on second and third with two outs for the Bobcats. Ben Gibson (Sagamore Beach, Massachusetts) struck out, but reached base on a passed ball, allowing Batten to score to bring the score to 3-2. Quinnipiac tied the game in the next at-bat, as Scafariello scored on a wild pitch.
Hartford scored a run in the fifth and two in the sixth inning to take a 6-3 lead, setting up Quinnipiac's comeback bid in the ninth.
Oestreicher hit a one-out single in the ninth to start the rally for the Bobcats, then was pinch-ran for by Derek Kasperzyk (Killingworth, Connecticut). With two outs in the inning, Kasperzyk advanced to second on a passed ball, then Brian Moskey (Higganum, Connecticut) was hit by a pitch, putting runners on first and second for Vulgamore. Vulgamore followed with a single on a 2-0 count, driving in Kasperzyk to bring the score to 6-4.
Nelson followed in the next at-bat with an RBI single of his own to cut the deficit to 6-5. Mike Palladino (Rockville Centre, New York) stepped to the plate with the tying run on second and go-ahead run on first. However, on the first pitch, he flied out to center, ending the game and cementing Quinnipiac's 6-5 loss.
Quinnipiac will look to bounce back this weekend when the Bobcats host MAAC foe Canisius in a three-game set at the Quinnipiac Baseball Field. The doubleheader is scheduled for 12 p.m. and 3 p.m. on Saturday, with game three set for Sunday at noon. The Bobcats look to remain unbeaten at home (6-0) against MAAC teams.
