QU Softball Set for Thursday Doubleheader Against Army West Point

BACK ON THE ROAD
The Quinnipiac softball team is back on the road, as it heads to West Point, New York to take on the Army Black Knights in a doubleheader on Thursday afternoon at the Army Softball Complex.
SCOUTING THE Black Knights
Army owns a 27-15 record this season and owns a 7-5 record in the Patriot League. Despite getting off to a hot start to the season, the Black Knights have lost their last four contests.
LAST TIME OUT
Last time the Bobcats took the field, they swept the defending MAAC champion Marist Red Foxes, 5-4 and 3-2 at the QU Softball Field. Rebecca Drake (Whiting, New Jersey) went 4-for-4 in game one, with her fourth hit being an two-run single in the bottom of the seventh that tied and won the game. In game two, Taylor Troyan (Boca Raton, Florida) doubled in the tying and winning runs in the bottom of the sixth to cement Quinnipiac's 3-2 win.
THE LONG WAY
Abbey Long (Eau Claire, Wisconsin) has had an impressive campaign so far in her freshman season. Long leads the pitching staff with nine wins and owns a 2.91 ERA over 98.2 innings pitched. In Long's two starts, she went 2-0, helping the Bobcats to a 4-0 win over Sacred Heart and 3-2 win over Marist. In Long's first start, she threw a complete-game shutout, allowing only five hits while striking out three batters. In her second start against Marist, she threw a complete-game, allowing two earned runs, while striking out four batters.
NEARLY UNHITTABLE
Casey Herzog (Wappinger Falls, New York) has been impressive in her junior campaign, sporting seven wins with a 3.14 ERA and 76 strikeouts over 109.1 innings. Herzog went 2-0 in her only two starts this week, boasting a 0.82 ERA in the process. In her start against Sacred Heart, Herzog threw a complete-game, 10-inning shutout to help the team to a 1-0 victory. Herzog struck out seven batters in the win. In Herzog's start against Marist, she threw a complete-game, giving up just two earned runs in a 5-4 victory.
MORE LIFE
Drake has injected life into Quinnipiac's lineup this season. Drake boasts a team-best .410 batting average and has slugged four homers and driven in 21 runs. Drake also boasts an incredible .632 slugging percentage.
Drake's bat helped lead Quinnipiac to a 4-1 record during the week. Drake went 12-for-19 from the plate (.632), with three RBI's, as well as boasting a .632 on-base percentage and .842 slugging percentage. In Quinnipiac's 5-4 win over Marist, Drake went 4-for-4 with her last hit, driving in the game-tying and winning runs.
MARVELOUS MAGANA
Miranda Magana (Santa Paula, California) has been one of the team's most consistent hitters so far this season. In 36 games, Magana has an impressive .344 batting average with a team-high six home runs and 20 RBIs.
ROUGHING THE RIGHTIES
Drake and Magana have hammered right-handed pitching so far this season. Drake is 41-for-97 (.423) against righties, while Magana is 33-for-99 (.333) against righties.
SEND 'EM HOME
Quinnipiac has a .286 batting average with runners in scoring position this season. Drake is an astounding 15-for-32 (.469) with runners in scoring position, Erin Larsen (Kissimmee, Florida) is hitting .333 and Magana is hitting .360 with RISP.
