HAMDEN, Conn. - The Quinnipiac men's basketball team will take on Colorado in the first round of the 2017 U.S. Virgin Islands Paradise Jam, it was announced today by the tournament directors.
Quinnipiac will be making its second appearance at the Paradise Jam after a memorable trip in 2012. The Bobcats, who were members of the Northeast Conference at the time, defeated current MAAC rival Iona 98-92 in overtime in the opening round. Quinnipiac then went to double overtime in the semifinals against state rival Connecticut before falling 89-83, after the Huskies rallied to tie the game in regulation.
The Bobcats will be facing Colorado for the first time in program history. Quinnipiac's only previous matchups against the Pac-12 Conference came in a three-game series with Oregon State, including a home 60-52 win over the Beavers in 2014-15.
This past winter, Quinnipiac participated in another big early-season tournament at the AdvoCare Invitational in Orlando, Florida, where the Bobcats faced Gonzaga, Seton Hall and Indiana State. Quinnipiac battled then-No. 11 Gonzaga to a standstill for the first 15 minutes before falling 82-62 and defeated Indiana State 80-77 in the seventh-place game. Gonzaga went on to earn a No. 1 national ranking and reach the national championship game, narrowly falling to North Carolina.
