QU Softball Sweeps Marist, 5-4 and 3-2 in MAAC Doubleheader

Late Game Heroics From Rebecca Drake and Taylor Troyan Leads QU Past Marist
HAMDEN, Conn. - The Quinnipiac softball team was able to sweep MAAC rival Marist in a doubleheader, 5-4 and 3-2, on Saturday, April 15 at the QU Softball Field.
With the wins, the Bobcats improve to 18-18 (5-3 MAAC) while the Red Foxes fall to 21-16 (3-5 MAAC).
Rebecca Drake (Whiting, New Jersey) went 4-for-4 from the plate in game one, driving in the Bobcats' tying and winning runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to walk-off against Marist.
Lexi Courtney (Scappoose, Oregon) added two RBIs and Miranda Magana (Santa Paula, California) chipped in an RBI as well.
Quinnipiac got on the board early, striking for two runs in the bottom of the first inning. Magana led the inning off with a single, then Erin Larsen (Kissimmee, Florida) drew a walk, followed by a Drake single to load the bases. Two batters later, Courtney lined a two-run single to center, giving the Bobcats a 2-0 lead.
Marist got on the board with two runs in the third, then two more in the top of the seventh, giving the Red Foxes a 4-2 lead heading into the Bobcats' last at-bats.
Sarah Heimbach (Greenwich, New York) started the rally with a single up the middle, then two batters later, Emily Czaja (Palmer, Massachusetts) drew a 3-2 walk to put runners on first and second with one out. Magana then came to the plate and hit an 0-2 single, scoring Heimbach to cut the deficit the one run.
Larsen came to bat and grounded out to the third baseman, however both runners advanced, setting up runners on second and third, with two outs and the Bobcats down one. Drake came to the plate and on a 3-1 pitch she lined a pitch for a single, scoring Czaja and Magana to win the game 5-4.
Casey Herzog (Wappinger Falls, New York) earned the win, going the distance, allowing two earned runs, while striking out three.
In game two, Taylor Troyan (Boca Raton, Florida) was the hero, as she doubled in the tying and eventual winning runs in the bottom of the sixth to cement Quinnipiac's 3-2 win over the defending MAAC champion Marist Red Foxes.
Abbey Long (Eau Claire, Wisconsin) earned the win in game two, going the distance while allowing two earned runs and striking out four batters.
Quinnipiac will be back in action on Thursday, April 20, when the Bobcats travel to take on Army in a doubleheader in West Point, New York.
