QU Baseball Drops Doubleheader At Monmouth, 9-4 and 12-0

WEST LONG BRANCH, New Jersey- Quinnipiac dropped both games of a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference doubleheader to Monmouth, 9-4 and 12-0, at the MU Baseball Field in West Long Brand, New Jersey. With the losses, the Bobcats fall to 7-13 on the year and 0-3 in the MAAC.
Brian Moskey (Higganum, Connecticut) led the Bobcats' offense with a solo home run in the first game and a double in the second. Mike Palladino (Rockville Centre, New York) was 1-for-4 with a RBI and a run score in Game 1 while Anthony Cruz (Burling, Massachusetts) was 1-for-2 with a run scored in the first game. Quinnipiac was held to just four hits in Game 2.
GAME ONE
The Hawks' Game One victory was led by a seven-run second inning backed by a three-run home run by Monmouth third baseman Johnny Zega.
After the Hawks struck for two more runs in the third inning, the Bobcats jumped on the board in the top of the fifth inning when Moskey's third home run of the year cleared the left field wall to cut the Hawks' lead to 9-1. Quinnipiac continued to shorten Monmouth's lead later in the inning after Palladino singled to left to score Julius Saporito (Manalapan, New Jersey) before Cruz came around to score on a throwing error.
Joey Burns (Shelton, Connecticut) then reached on a throwing error that allowed Palladino to score on the overthrow and cut the Hawks' lead to 9-4.
GAME TWO
Moskey continued his strong Saturday, grabbing his second hit of the day in Game 2 after connecting for a home run in the first game. Andre Marrero (West Springfield, Massachusetts), Ryan Nelson (Knoxville, Tennessee) and Burns also tallied a hit in the second game.
Monmouth took control of the game early with a three-run first inning, another run in the second before pushing four runs across in the fourth and fifth innings to jump out to a 12-0 lead.
The Bobcats relief pitchers Nick Paasch (Tolland, Connecticut) and Mike Davis (Sandy Hook, Connecticut) each had impressive outings in relief. Paasch sat down the Hawks' hitters without giving up a hit in one inning of relief. Davis pitched two innings, giving up one hit.
Quinnipiac will return to action on Wednesday, Mar. 28 when they welcome the University of Rhode Island for the Bobcats' home opener at the QU Baseball Field at 3 p.m.
