Ben Gibson (Sagamore Beach, MA), Mike Palladino (Rockville Centre, NY), Brian Moskey (Higganum, CT), Liam Scafariello (Southington, CT) and Matthew Batten (Shelton, CT) all went deep in the win for the Bobcats. Scafariello's home run is his fifth of the season, while Gibson, Palladino, Moskey and Batten each recorded their first long ball of the year. Moskey and Joseph Burns (Shelton, CT) both recorded two-hit days in the win.
Robert Hitt (Suffield, CT) started on the mound for Quinnipiac, lasting an impressive 5.0 innings while giving up just three hits and one run to go along with four strikeouts. Wyatt Hamilton (Falmouth, MA) lasted the next 2.0 innings, surrendering three hits and two runs with two punch outs. Chris Enns (Canton, CT) got the first out of the bottom of the eighth inning, then Andrew Workman (Pound Ridge, NY) went the next 2.2 scoreless innings while fanning two batters. Mike Davis (Sandy Hook, CT) shut the door out of the bullpen, recording his second save of the season in the win.
The Bobcats got on the board first in the top half of the second inning, as junior Ben Gibson (Sagamore Beach, MA) blasted an 0-1 pitch over the wall for his first home run of the season to give Quinnipiac the lead. The hit is Gibson's fifth of the season, and he's now got three RBI's.
The Keydets then scored once in the third and twice in the sixth to take a 3-1 lead. Quinnipiac came roaring back in the top of the eighth, when Mike Palladino (Rockville Centre, NY) blasted a 3-2 pitch to left field for a two-run homerun to tie the game.
VMI was able to plate two more runs in the bottom half of the eighth, though, regaining a 5-3 lead. Once again, the Bobcats battled back to tie things in the top half of the ninth with a two-run homerun.
Brian Moskey (Higganum, CT) belted a first-pitch fastball over the left field fence to tie the game 5-5. The long ball is the sophomore's first of the season, and he now has eight RBI's.
Liam Scafariello (Southington, CT) and Matthew Batten (Shelton, CT) then hit back-to-back home runs to left field to lead off the top of the 11th, and Quinnipiac outlasted VMI. Evan Vulgamore helped tack on an insurance run when he was hit by a pitch later in the 11th inning to bring in Moskey, making it 11-8.
The Bobctas are back in action tomorrow, March 11, squaring off vs. VMI from Lexington, VA again at 2 p.m.
