HAMDEN, Connecticut - Quinnipiac men's ice hockey cruised to a 4-1 win against Brown in an ECAC Hockey match-up at High Point Solutions Arena. With the win, Quinnipiac concludes the regular season at 19-13-2 overall and 13-8-1 in ECAC Hockey while Brown drops to 4-23-2 including a 3-18-1 mark in league action.
Nick Jermain (Cos Cob, Connecticut) had a goal and an assist while Karlis Cukste (Riga, Latvia) and Kevin Duane (New Canaan, Connecticut) both had two assists. Tanner MacMaster (Calgary, Alberta), Thomas Aldworth (Heller, Texas) and Alex Whelan (Ramsey, New Jersey) all scored for the Bobcats. Andrew Shortridge (Anchorage, Alaska) stopped 18 of Brown's 19 shots on goal to improve to 9-5-0 overall and 6-2-0 in ECAC Hockey.
Prior to the start of the game, Quinnipiac Athletics honored Joe Fiala (Verona, Wisconsin), K.J. Tiefenwerth (Bellmore, New York), Derek Smith (Apple Valley, Minnesota), Tommy Schutt (Chanhassen, Minnesota) as well as Tim and Connor Clifton (Matawan, New Jersey) as part of Senior Night. The six stand-out student-athletes have combined for 98 wins through Saturday's game over their four years, as well as three NCAA Tournament appearances, a NCAA Frozen Four appearance in 2016 as well as two ECAC Hockey Cleary Cup regular-season championships and the program's first ECAC Hockey Whitelaw Cup for the tournament championship in 2016.
Jermain got Quinnipiac on the board with just under five minutes to play in the first period with his fourth goal of the season. Cukste played the puck up the ice after picking it up off the boards in front of the Bobcats' bench. Kevin Duane (New Canaan, Connecticut) tipped the puck before it settled on Jermain's stick. The freshman wing walked around defenseman, played the puck between his legs faked a back-hand shot on Brown goalie Gavin Nieto before walking across the crease and depositing the game's first goal.
Less than two minutes later, Brown's Max Willman threw the puck on goal where it was knocked down in traffic. Charlie Corcoran picked up the rebound and tipped it on goal when Shortridge kicked it away. The puck leaked out across the crease where Corcoran was able to get his own rebound and tie the game at 1-1.
Coming out of the first intermission, MacMaster scored just under a minute after played started. Landon Smith (Greenwood Village, Colorado) handed the puck to Bo Pieper (Roseville, Minnesota) on the goal line who sent a pass to MacMaster in the face-off circle. MacMaster's wrist shot to the far post rang home to give the Bobcats a 2-1 lead. Two minutes later, Jermain picked up an assist, and Duane picked up his second, on Aldworth seventh goal of the season.
Just under eight minutes in, K.J. Tiefenwerth (Bellmore, New York) re-directed a pass in the Bobcats' defensive zone to Cukste along the boards. Cukste won a race to the puck and poked it up-ice to Alex Whelan who took off on a breakaway. Wheelman looked off the goalie and sniped a shot to the top corner to give Quinnipiac a 4-1 lead.
