Hamden, Connecticut – The Quinnipiac women's ice hockey team returns to the ice on Thursday afternoon at 3 PM after a 19-day break to face the Korean National team at the Frank Perrotti, Jr. Arena in an exhibition contest.
The Bobcats finished the first half of their season with an 11-8-2 record, 7-5-0 in the ECAC after splitting a home-and-home series with Princeton on December 8-9. Quinnipiac is currently 2nd in the conference with 14 points, only trailing Clarkson.
The Bobcats have been led offensively this season by juniors Kenzie Lancaster (Waxhaw, North Carolina) and Melissa Samoskevich (Sandy Hook, Connecticut). Lancaster leads the team with 10 assists and 15 points on the year, and Samoskevich's nine goals top the team leaderboard. Each picked up a point in the win over Princeton on December 9.

The Korean National team has been traveling across the United States to prepare for the 2018 Winter Olympics, which will be hosted in PyeongChang. They faced five teams in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association in September: Wisconsin, Bemidji State, St. Cloud State, Minnesota, and Ohio State. Korea scored three goals in a losing effort against St. Cloud State on September 22. Korea receives an automatic qualification to the Olympic Games as the host nation, and this will be the first time that Korea's women's hockey team will be participating in the Olympics.
Defenseman Yoonjung Park (American name – Marissa Brandt) holds dual citizenship in both Korea and the United States. She was adopted to the United States when she was four months old. Park's sister, Hannah Brandt, is a member of the United States women's ice hockey national team.
Goaltender So Jung Shin has been training with the Korean women's ice hockey national team since the age of 10. Shin has been playing with the national team since she was 13 years old, and participated in the World Championship when she was 14. During the 2016-17 season, she played for the New York Riveters of the NWHL.
Forward Jongah Park is the captain of the Korea national women's hockey team, and is a player to watch. She spent two years in Canadian hockey academies and will play at Saskatchewan University next season. She first joined the Korean national team at the age of 15.
Korea is in Group B along with Japan, Sweden, and Switzerland for the 2018 Olympic Games in PyeongChang. Group A is comprised of the United States, Canada, Finland, and Russia. Korea's first game will be on February 10, when they face Switzerland in the second game of the tournament. The United States will play its first game the next day, when they face the Finnish national team. The tournament is set to run from February 10-22.
