Bobcats Pummel Niagara Despite Playing With 10 for Over 78 Minutes
HAMDEN, Connecticut – In the game of soccer, rare doesn't even begin to describe what happened on Saturday for the Quinnipiac women's soccer team. Despite having a player shown a red card in the 12th minute, playing with the inherent emotions of Senior Day and facing a team that outscored the Bobcats by a combined score of 7-0 over their last two meetings, Quinnipiac turned in a marvelous performance that saw the home side defeat Niagara by a score of 4-0 from the Quinnipiac Soccer Stadium. The game script was made even more perfect as senior Carly Glaser (New City, New York) fired in the opening goal, her first of the season in just the second start of her career, which also went down as the game-winner in her Senior Day game.

SCORING SUMMARY
- 10:15 (QU 1, NIA 0): The crowd came alive in the 11th minute as Glaser picked off a Niagara defender 30 yards from net. Dribbling in on the Purple Eagles' defense, Glaser cut wide and struck a left-footed shot to the lower left corner of the cage to ignite a thunderous crowd of nearly 900 Bobcat fans
- 27:41 (QU 2, NIA 0): The forward duo of Al Pelletier (Cheshire, Connecticut) and Nadya Gill (Toronto, Ontario) linked up for their first of two combined goals on the day as Madison Borowiec (Windsor, Connecticut) fed Gill in the midfield who thread the needle between two Niagara defenders to a streaking Pelletier up the left side. With just one player to beat, Pelletier made no mistake in slotting her shot in the top corner past the sprawling Niagara keeper
- 34:37 (QU 3, NIA 0): Gill created a prime scoring chance as she possessed at midfield, dribbled through the Niagara defense and was fouled just inside the box as the referee signaled for a penalty kick. Stepping to the circle for the second time this season, Gill converted once again as her right-footed shot went to the right of the diving Niagara keeper
- 45:42 (QU 4, NIA 0): Continuing the dominance on the offensive end, the Bobcats came out of the halftime locker room and added an insurance marker on Pelletier's second goal of the day. Laura Nicholas (Derry City, Northern Ireland) fed Glaser who crossed far post for Pelletier, who made no mistake flicking her shot over the line

NOTES
- The Bobcats honored seniors Glaser and Jillian Consolini (Suffield, Connecticut) as well as graduate student Emma Greco (Burlington, Ontario) before the match for Senior Day
- A key moment in the match came in the 12th minute as Katrina Friedman (Syosset, New York) was whistled for a red card as the junior defender's right arm deflected away what would have been a Niagara goal after the Bobcats had taken the 1-0 lead on Glaser's tally
- Eva Bachmann stepped to the circle for Niagara and hit her penalty kick off the post and out wide as that wiped away the would-be equalizer early in the match
- That red card (the first for the Bobcats since 2014) and ensuing missed penalty kick, proved to be a landmark moment in the match as Quinnipiac went on to dominate the score 3-0 and shot total (15-9) following the red card
- The four-goal total is the most Quinnipiac has ever scored in a game where the Bobcats were issued a red card
- Glaser adds another game-winning goal to her resume as the senior's first career tally was also the game-winner last season in a 3-0 home win over Marist
- The senior added an assist, nearly doubling her career point total heading into today's match as she came into play with four career points (one goal, two assists) in 43 games played
- Pelletier knocked in two for her first career multi-goal game, giving her single-season career highs across the board in points (17), goals (six) and assists (five)
- Pelletier now has three goals in the last two games as she scored the lone goal in a 2-1 loss at Iona on Wednesday
- Gill racked up three points (one goal, two assists) as she continues to lead the MAAC in points (30), goals (11) and assists (eight) through 15 games this season
- The next-closest player point total in the league is Rider's Michelle Iacono with 21 (10 points behind Gill)
- Borowiec picked up another assist as she now has six on the season (4th highest total in the MAAC)
- Borowiec extends her career high single-season point total to 14 as she now has four goals and six assists in 15 matches
- Olivia Myszewski (Elm Grove, Wisconsin) was solid once again in net, making six saves while the Bobcat defense excelled in a match where the team was playing with just 10 for over 78 minutes
- Myszewski now owns a 0.82 goals-against average in MAAC play while sporting a .863 save percentage with 44 saves and three clean sheets thus far through eight league games
- Myszewski has also posted at least five saves in five-of-eight MAAC games
- Quinnipiac improves to 6-0-2 on the season in games in which the Bobcats score first
- Quinnipiac takes down a Niagara team the Bobcats had never defeated since joining the MAAC, coming in with a 0-3-1 mark in the first four meetings against the Purple Eagles
- The win was made even more resounding considering Niagara had won the last two meetings by a combined score of 7-0 (3-0 win at Niagara in 2016, 4-0 win in Hamden in 2015)
Quinnipiac hosts Manhattan in a huge clash between two teams in the top four of the MAAC standings on Wednesday, October 18 at 3:00 PM. The Bobcats defeated the Jaspers last season, 1-0, at Manhattan.
