Quinnipiac men's ice hockey head coach Rand Pecknold has been announced as a member of the New Hampshire Legends of Hockey's Hall of Fame Class of 2016. Pecknold will be formally inducted during a luncheon ceremony at the Grappone Conference Center in Concord on Sunday, October 23, 2016. Hall of Fame Induction tickets will be available to the general public on Sept. 1.
Pecknold is a native of Bedford, New Hampshire, and played two seasons at Manchester West High School in Manchester, New Hampshire before playing two seasons at Lawrence Academy in Groton, Massachusetts. He went on to a celebrated career as one of the all-time great players in Connecticut College history before taking the reigns of the Quinnipiac program in 1995.
Pecknold recently completed his 22nd season as the Bobcats' head coach and has brought the program to never-before-seen heights at the University. Pecknold's squad is coming off its second NCAA Frozen Four appearance in four seasons and played in its second National Championship Game. In addition, Quinnipiac has won more games than any NCAA Division I men's ice hockey program over the last four years, each of which has culminated in a NCAA Tournament appearance. For his efforts in an incredible 2015-16 season, Pecknold was recognized by the American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA) with Spencer Penrose Award as the National Coach of the Year, while also earning national acclaim from CollegeHockeyNews.com and his second ECAC Hockey Tim Taylor Coach of the Year Honor.
This season, Quinnipiac won a program record 32 games while winning the ECAC Hockey Regular-Season (Cleary Cup) and Tournament (Whitelaw Cup) Championships. The Bobcats' 32-4-7 record made them the first team since Michigan in 1997 to finish the season with only four losses for the year.
Through his 22nd season as Quinnipiac's head coach, Pecknold holds a career record of 446-264-83, while his win total ranks sixth among active head coaches. Pecknold has guided the Bobcats to four consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances, while Quinnipiac's 108 wins since the start of the 2012-13 season are the most among NCAA Division I programs.
