
QU Baseball Wins First MAAC Game, 7-0, at Siena in Doubleheader Split

LOUDONVILLE, New York – The Quinnipiac baseball team exploded for seven runs in the second game of their doubleheader with the Siena Saints on Saturday afternoon to split the doubleheader with a 7-0 win following their 3-2 loss in game one.
Quinnipiac improved its record to 9-18 (1-4 MAAC) with its first conference victory of the season in its doubleheader split while Siena fell to 8-20 (2-5 MAAC).
Taylor Luciani (Berlin, Connecticut) pitched a complete game shutout for the Bobcats in seven inning game, striking out seven batters while scattering six hits in his best start of the season. Luciani's third win is good for the most on the pitching staff.
Robert Pescitelli (West Islip, New York) led the offense in the doubleheader as he went a combined 3 for 7 with three runs scored, two RBIs, two stolen bases and walk. Lou Iannotti (North Haven, Connecticut) went 3 for 8 with a double, RBI, run scored and a stolen base while Matthew Batten (Shelton, Connecticut) went 3 for 8 with a double and a run scored.
Matthew Oestreicher (North Haven, Connecticut) led the team with three RBIs between the two games on Saturday afternoon.
Game One
Despite taking the loss in game one, Thomas Jankins (West Brookfield, Massachusetts) made yet another solid start for the Bobcats. He tossed the first 6 1/3 innings, allowing three runs on seven hits with three walks and six strikeouts. Jankins (2-4) has now struck out six or more batters in five of his last six starts.
Julius Saporito (Manalapan, New Jersey) and Pescitelli each singled and scored for the Bobcats while Oestreicher singled and drove in the only RBI of the game.
Siena jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning as Fred Smart hit a two-run home run off Jankins, scoring Dan Swain who singled to lead off the game. Smart's home run was the first Jankins has allowed this season.
The Bobcats evened up the score in the top of the third inning at 2-2. Saporito, Pescitelli and Iannotti hit three straight singles to load up the bases with just one out in the inning. Oestreicher reached first one a fielder's choice that scored Saporito and Pescitelli came home to score on an error by second baseman Jordan Bishop.
Siena broke the 2-2 tie in the bottom of the sixth inning. Bishop and Joe Drpich led off the inning with back-to-back singles and both runners got into scoring position via the wild pitch. Jordan Folgers grounded out to Batten at shortstop that scored Bishop from third base.
Game Two
Pescitelli was the leader for the Bobcats in game two as he went 2 for 4 with two RBIs, two runs scored and a stolen base. Iannotti also picked up two hits, including a double, for the Bobcats with a RBI, run scored and stolen base while Batten went 2 for 4 with a double and a run scored.
Oestreicher picked up two more RBIs in game two for the Bobcats while Brian Moskey (Higganum, Connecticut) went 1 for 3 with a RBI and a run scored. Joseph Burns (Shelton, Connecticut) and Aron Fried (Ossining, New York) each scored a run.

Batten doubled with one out in the inning and came home to score as Pescitelli reached first on Drpich's fielding error at third base. After Pescitelli stole second base, Iannotti doubled to left field to score Pescitelli easily.
The Bobcats wrapped up their scoring in the top of the seventh inning with three runs to take a 7-0 lead. Burns reached on a fielding error by Brett Connors at third base. Burns then stole second and came home to score on Moskey's single to left field. Fried reached on an infield single to move Moskey into scoring position. Saporito reached on an infield single to load up the bases before Pescitelli ripped a single to right field that scored Moskey and Fried to make it 7-0.
The Quinnipiac baseball team and the Siena Saints will face each other in the rubber game of the series on Sunday, Apr. 10 at the Siena Baseball Field with first pitch scheduled for 2 PM.
