
Rob Pescitelli Reaches Base Six Times, QU Baseball Falls to Siena in 12 Innings, 8-7

LOUDONVILLE, New York – The Quinnipiac baseball team scored one run in the top of the ninth inning to force extra innings but fell to the Siena Saints, 8-7, in their 12-inning contest on Sunday, Apr. 10 at the Siena Baseball Field.
Quinnipiac fell to 9-19 (1-5 MAAC) on the season with the loss as they dropped their second straight MAAC series while Siena improved to 9-20 (5-4 MAAC).
Siena closer Kyano Cummings pitched the final eight innings of the game for the Saints to pick up the win, allowing four runs on 10 hits with six walks and nine strikeouts. Bobcats' reliever Gregory Egan (Seldon, N.Y.) took his second loss of the season as he tossed 1/3 of an inning with one unearned run and one hit allowed.
Rob Pescitelli (West Islip, New York) reached base in all six plate appearances as he went 2 for 2 with four walks, a double, one RBI and three runs scored to lead the Bobcats offense.
Lou Iannotti (North Haven, Connecticut) and Aron Fried (Ossining, New York) each went 3 for 6 with a double while Iannotti drove in three RBIs and Fried scored one run.
Ben Gibson (Sagamore Beach, Massachusetts) matched his freshman season home run total with his fifth long-ball of the season. Gibson is the first Bobcat since Vincent Guglietti to have back-to-back seasons of five or more home runs. Gibson is also first player in program history since Wilson Matos to have at least 10 home runs in his first two seasons, when Matos hit 11 home runs between the 2003-04 and 2004-05 seasons.
Julius Saporito (Manalapan, New Jersey) picked up two hits with a run and a RBI.
The Bobcats jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning for their first lead of the game. Saporito singled and Pescitelli doubled with one out to put runners on second and third for Iannotti, who singled home both baserunners.
Siena answered in the bottom of the second inning to take a 3-2 lead. Fred Smart scored on the Dan Lowndes fielder's choice before Brian Kelly scored on the Matthew Batten (Shelton, Connecticut) error on the play. Lowndes came around to score one batter later on a single by Tyler Martis.
The Saints extended their lead to 4-2 in the bottom of the fourth inning after Dan Swain walked and advanced his way around the bases on three wild pitches in the inning.
Quinnipiac answered in the next half inning with two runs to tie the game at 4-4. Batten singled to lead off the inning and advanced to second on an error by the centerfielder. A failed pickoff attempt allowed Batten to move up to third where he scored on Pescitelli's RBI single. After Pescitelli stolen second base, Iannotti drilled a double to right field that scored Pescitelli easily.
Neither team managed another run until the top of the eighth inning when the Bobcats took a 5-4 lead on Gibson's lead-off solo home run. The Bobcats threatened for more late in the inning but stranded runners on the corners.
Siena responded once again with two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to take a 6-5 lead. Kelly led off with a double. Pinch-runner Ryan Stefniak came home to score later in the inning on Lowndes' RBI single. After Lowndes moved into scoring position on a wild pitch, he came home to score on Swain's RBI single.
The Bobcats came back in the top of the ninth inning to force extra innings. Pescitelli walked with one out and moved up to second on a wild pitch with two outs in the inning. Oestreicher poked a single into centerfield that scored Pescitelli to tie the game, 6-6.
With two outs in the top of the 10th inning, the Bobcats added a run to take a 7-6 lead. Fried reached on an infield single and a four-pitch walk to Batten put runners on first and second. Saporito singled to score Fried but the Bobcats stranded the bases loaded to end the inning.
In the bottom of the 10th inning, Swain doubled home Lowndes after a leadoff single to tie the game once again at 7-7.
Siena won the game in the bottom of the 12 inning. Swain doubled with one out in the inning and moved up to third on an error by Fried at second base. Egan then threw a wild pitch that scored Swain from third to end the game.
The Quinnipiac baseball team returns to action with their final two games of the 15-game road trip where they travel to Hartford on Tuesday, Apr. 12 to face the Hawks at 3 PM before traveling to Boston, Massachusetts to take on the Northeastern Huskies at 3 PM on Wednesday, Apr. 13.
