Brian Moskey Tallies Six Hits as QU Baseball Splits Doubleheader with Manhattan

HAMDEN, Connecticut – Brian Moskey (Higganum, Connecticut) recorded six hits on Saturday afternoon as the Quinnipiac baseball team split their doubleheader with the Manhattan Jaspers, winning game one 5-3 before falling in the second game, 17-11.
Quinnipiac moves its record to 15-22 (5-6 MAAC) with the doubleheader split while Manhattan sits at 12-23 (4-7 MAAC).
Moskey went 6 for 8 from the plate, scoring four runs and driving in three RBIs, to lead the Bobcats in the doubleheader. Lou Iannotti tallied three hits, including his first home run of the season, with three RBIs for the Bobcats. Julius Saporito (Manalapan, New Jersey) and Matthew Batten (Shelton, Connecticut) also tallied three hits with two RBIs each while Saporito picked up two doubles compared to Batten's one.
Thomas Jankins (West Brookfield, Massachusetts) tallied his fourth win of the season with 7 2/3 inning effort on the mound for the Bobcats, striking out four batters while allowing three runs on eight hits. Robert Hitt (Suffield, Connecticut) picked up his sixth save of the season as he struck out one batter to convert the four-out save.
Game One:
Moskey went 3 for 4 in the first game of the doubleheader as the only Bobcat to record multiple hits in the game. He also came home to score two runs in the game.
Pescitelli went 1 for 2 with his two-run home run, two RBIs, two runs scored, a walk and a hit by pitch.
Manhattan took a 1-0 lead in top of the second inning behind freshman phenom Fabian Pena. Pena led off the inning with a double off the centerfield wall and quickly came around to score Michael Pfenninger singled to left to score Pena easily.
The Jaspers scored another run in the top of the second inning as Jose Carrera doubled down the left field line with one out in the inning before scoring on a Christian Santisteban singled through the left side to score Carrera from second.
Quinnipiac got one run back in the bottom of the fourth inning to bring them within 2-1. Pescitelli was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning. After two outs, Burns roped a double over left fielder Richie Barrella's head to score Pescitelli all the way from first base.
Pescitelli gave the Bobcats a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the fifth inning when he cracked his fifth home run of the season, and third of the week. Moskey reached with a bunt single to third base with one out before Pescitelli hit his two out, two-run home run well over the right field fence.
The Jaspers tied the game back up in the top of the seventh inning at 3-3. Anthony Rocchietti singled to lead off the inning before coming around to score on Aron Fried's (Ossining, Connecticut) era that allowed Chris Reynolds to reach base.
Quinnipiac scored two more times in the bottom of the seventh inning to secure their fifth MAAC win of the season. Moskey reached on a single and moved up to second on an error by the third baseman before scoring as Batten reached on an error by the first baseman. With one out in the inning, Batten stole second and third base before scoring on Iannotti's RBI groundout.
The Bobcats ended the game with a double play as Pescitelli made one of his three diving catches of the afternoon for the second out, then quickly got the ball back into the infield to double up the runner on first base.
Game Two:
Saporito went 3 for 4 with a pair of doubles, runs and RBIs as one of three Bobcats to record three hits in the game. Moskey tallied his second straight 3 for 4 game with two runs and three RBIs while Batten went 3 for 5 with a double and two RBIs.
Iannotti went 2 for 4 and launched his first home run of the season.
The Jaspers jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning as Richie Barrella score on Pena's double down the left field line. With runners on second and third, Jason Patnick brought home Pena and Christian Santisteban on a RBI single.
Moskey scored the Bobcats first run of the game in the bottom half of the first inning. Moskey led off with a single and Batten doubled him over to third base. Pescitelli grounded out to shortstop, allowing Moskey to score from third base.
In the bottom half of the second, Quinnipiac put up four runs, all with two outs, to take a 5-3 lead over Manhattan. Oestreicher and Saporito singled and Fried walked to load up the bases. Moskey laced a RBI single up the middle that scored Oestreicher and Saporito to tie the game. Batten singled to right field to score Fried but Santisteban's throw home sailed into the backstop which brought home Moskey.

After Manhattan scored seven runs in the top of the sixth inning, Quinnipiac added two more. Pescitelli reached on a fielder's choice before Iannotti launched a home run well over the right field fence to bring the Bobcats within 12-8.

Moskey singled to center to score Saporito before Batten lined out to center for sacrifice home Gibson.
The Bobcats and the Jaspers will battle on Sunday afternoon at 12 PM in the rubber match of the series at the QU Baseball Field.
