
QU Men's Tennis Clinches Berth in MAAC Tournament with 6-1 Win at Fairfield

FAIRFIELD, Connecticut – The Quinnipiac men's tennis team qualified for its second consecutive MAAC Tournament on Thursday afternoon as the Bobcats defeated the Fairfield Stags, 6-1.
Quinnipiac has now qualified for the MAAC Tournament in two of its first three seasons in the MAAC. The Bobcats improve to 13-7 (5-1 MAAC), tying the 2005-06 team for the second most wins in program history. The Bobcats program record for wins in a season is 14 from the 2004-05 season. Fairfield falls to 6-14 (4-3 MAAC) with the loss but has still qualified for the MAAC Tournament as the Stags own the tiebreaker with the Saint Peter's Peacocks.
Kei Ezaka (Ojai, California), Luke Roser (Bernardsville, New Jersey) and Freddie Zaretsky (Fair Lawn, New Jersey) all won two matches for the Bobcats in the win. Roser's two wins give him 38 this season, moving him into a four-way tie for the second most wins in a single season in program history. He also picked up his 23rd doubles win of the season, also good for the second most in a single season in program history. Roser also won his 60th career singles match which is one shy of tying John Hughes for second in program history.
Zaretsky's pair of victories boost his single-season total to 30 as he becomes the sixth player this season to pick up 30 overall wins. Ezaka picked up a key win at No. 1 singles to keep his record perfect against MAAC opponents at 6-0.
Ryoma Haraguchi (New York, New York) won at No. 6 singles for the Bobcats to pick up his 21st victory of the season, setting a new single-season career-high. Julian Rozenstein (Marlboro, New Jersey) picked up his 22nd singles win of the season for the Bobcats, tied with Eric Ambrosio's senior season for the fourth most singles victories in a single season in program history.
Jonas Kuwert (Jesteberg, Germany) and Zaretsky teamed up once again in doubles play to pick up the first win of the afternoon at No. 1 doubles over Jeffrey Rodgers and Anthony Caputo, 6-1. Roser and Ezaka were just as dominant at No. 2 doubles as they clinched the doubles point for the Bobcats with a 6-2 win over Brad Orban and Gabriel Pamich. Dylan Appel and Luke Lemieux picked up the lone doubles win for the Stags with a 6-4 win over Rozenstein and Haraguchi at No. 3 doubles.
Singles play was just was dominant for the Bobcats as they had the win early on over the Stags. Roser and Pamich duked it out at No. 5 singles but Roser lost just one game in the match to pick up the win, 6-1, 6-0. Rozenstein picked up his win at No. 3 singles just after Roser as Rozenstein defeated Appel, 6-3, 6-1. Ezaka picked up the biggest win of the day at No. 1 singles as he defeated Orban in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3, to clinch the 13th win of the season for the Bobcats. Haraguchi continued the Bobcats' winning at No. 6 singles as knocked off Lemieux, 6-4, 6-4. Caputo picked up the only point of the match for Fairfield at No. 4 singles as he and Kuwert battled into the third set, 7-5, 0-6, 10-2. Zaretsky and Rodgers battled at No. 2 singles as Zaretsky came from behind to defeat Rodgers, 3-6, 6-2, 6-1.
The Quinnipiac men's tennis team will wrap up MAAC Regular Season play on Saturday, April 23 at 11:30 AM when they face the Siena Saints (0-14, 0-5 MAAC) at Watervliet High School in Watervliet, New York.
