The Quinnipiac baseball team wraps up its 15-game road trip with two road contests at Northeastern in Boston, Massachusetts on Wednesday, Apr. 13 at 3 PM followed by a Thursday, Apr. 14 road trip to the Hartford Hawks oat 3 PM.
All-Time Against Northeastern
The Bobcats and the Huskies met for the first time last season with the Bobcats winning the matchup, 5-1, in Hamden, Connecticut. Vincent Guglietti and Lou Iannotti homered for the Bobcats in the game as Iannotti went 2 for 3 with his home run, a walk and a stolen base. The Bobcats allowed just three hits in the game as Charlie Murray and Matthew Lorenzetti combined for eight strikeouts in eight innings of work.
Scouting the Huskies
Northeastern comes into the series with a 15-14 record and 4-4 mark in CAA play. The Huskies opened up with two wins against then-ranked No. 30 Oklahoma. Northeastern had a five-game winning streak snapped with a pair of losses to Elon in CAA play over the weekend at Friedman Diamond. Against common opponents, Northeastern is 1-1 with a win over Rhode Island and a loss to Massachusetts. Of players to start more than 20 games, Pat Madigan leads the way with a .297 batting average, ripping six doubles, two home runs, 14 RBIs, scoring 15 runs and walking 15 times. Despite a .256 batting average, Charlie McConnell has 13 stolen bases to lead the team. Projected starter Nate Borges is 2-1 this season with a 2.60 ERA in six appearances and two starts.

Hartford comes into the mid-week slate with a 20-8 record and 5-4 mark in America East play. In games against common opponents to the Bobcats, Hartford is 11-1 including a three-game series sweep of North Florida to open up their season. Hartford is 3-2 in their last five games. David MacKinnon leads the team with a .364 batting average on 39 hits with six doubles, two home runs, 19 RBIs and 23 runs scored. Four players have batting averages above .300 and six players have two or more home runs as the Hawks have a team batting average of .277 and have scored just under six runs per game.

Quinnipiac picked up its first MAAC win of the season against Siena but dropped the series, 2-1. Taylor Luciani got the Bobcats win this weekend with a complete game shutout as he pitched all seven innings with seven strikeouts. Robert Pescitelli had a ridiculous weekend for the Bobcats as he scored six runs in three games, going 5 for 9 with a double and five walks for a .714 on base percentage. He also stole three bases.
Great Eye
Pescitelli's offensive weekend was dominant, but his patience at the plate was even better. He walked four times in the final game of the series and reached base in all six of his plate appearances. Pescitelli currently leads the Bobcats with 22 runs scored, 23 walks, 12 stolen bases and a .453 on base percentage while his 13 RBIs and .313 batting average are second. Pescitelli is third on the team with 31 hits, two home runs, 41 total bases and a .414 slugging percentage.
Going Deep
Ben Gibson made Bobcats history over the weekend as he hit his fifth home run of the season to give him 10 in his career. Gibson is the first Bobcat since Vincent Guglietti to record two consecutive five home run seasons. He is also the first Bobcats since Wilson Matos to record 10 home runs in his first two seasons in a Bobcat uniform since Wilson Matos in the 2004 and 2005 seasons.
Louie, Louie
Lou Iannotti extended his latest hitting streak to six games with hits in each of the three games over the weekend. Iannotti went 6 14 with two doubles, four RBIs and a stolen base. Iannotti had two multiple-hit games over the series, including a three-hit game with three RBIs in the final game of the series.
Battlefront
Matthew Batten extended his latest hitting streak to eight games with four hits against the Saints to go along with three walks. Batten scored two runs over the weekend as well and roped a double. Batten's double tied Gibson for the most on the team while his 20 runs scored and seven stolen bases are second on the team.
Four for Fried
With four hits over the weekend, Aron Fried started to come into his own at the plate. He went 4 for 13 with his first career double and two runs scored for his best weekend yet. Fried has five hits this season with three runs scored.
Feelin' It
Taylor Luciani picked up his team-leading third run of the season as he improved to 3-3 in his seventh start of the season. Luciani struck out seven batters in his complete game shutout against the Saints, scattering six hits with one run. Luciani now leads the Bobcats with 46 innings pitched and his 16 earned runs allowed are the fewest among starting pitchers. Luciani is also second on the team with 26 strikeouts.
Six More K's
Thomas Jankins picked up six more strikeouts for the Bobcats in 6 1/3 innings pitched in the Bobcats opening loss to the Saints. Jankins' six strikeouts give him five or more strikeouts in six of his seven starts this season. He currently leads the team with 43 strikeouts, just 10 shy of tying his single-season career-high from last season.
The Iron Shiek
Brandon Shileikis' start was his first in nearly two years after missing the 2015 season. Shileikis pitched five shutout innings to lead the Bobcats, allowing just four hits and striking out a pair of batters. Shileikis' last start had been on May 4, 2014. Shileikis lowered his season ERA to 0.84 with his first win.
Home Sweet Home
The Quinnipiac baseball team finally makes its long-awaited return to the QU Baseball Field this weekend where they will host the Iona Gaels for a three-game series beginning on Saturday, Apr. 16 at 12 PM with a doubleheader followed by the final game of the series on Sunday, Apr. 17 at 12 PM.
