The Quinnipiac acrobatics and tumbling team resumes their spring break west coast trip with a visit to southern California. On Tuesday, Mar. 15 the Bobcats will take on the Azusa Pacific University Cougars at 9:30 p.m. eastern time.
Scouting the Cougars
Azusa Pacific currently sits at 3-1 overall on the season. The Cougars began the year with a loss to Hawaii Pacific before defeating Glenville State. APU then swept a tri-meet against Gannon and Fairmont State with a season-high score of 276.96. The Cougars ranked fourth in the most recent NCATA Coaches' Poll with 96 points.
All-Time Against Azusa Pacific
Tuesday's matchup will be the twelfth all-time meeting between the two programs. Azusa Pacific holds a 7-4 advantage over the Bobcats. Last season, APU defeated Quinnipiac for the second consecutive year in the NCATA Semifinals. The Cougars won five of the six events on way to a 284.725-278.140 victory. In 2014, Azusa Pacific also ended Quinnipiac's season in the NCATA tournament. The three-seeded Bobcats fell to the two-seeded Cougars, 284.725-278.140. Undefeated in the Aerial
Johnson improved to 5-0 in the Aerial Pass against Gannon. Her season-high came in the opener against Baylor when she scored a 9.88 to give the Bobcats the only heat win of the Tumbling event.

Up next, the Bobcats will welcome Concordia University-Wisconsin on Senior Day. Quinnipiac will host the Falcons on Sunday, April 3 at 12 p.m.
NCATA Player of the Week
Junior top Kelsey Rule was named the NCATA Player of the Week, as announced by the league office on Wednesday, March 2. The award is the first for Rule in her three-year career as a Bobcat. The top helped lead the Bobcats to their highest score of the season over the weekend as Quinnipiac took down Gannon, 280.545-258.960. The junior also competed in eight different heats against the Golden Knights while the Bobcats recorded wins in seven of them
Dynamic Duo
Against Gannon, senior Taylor Johnson and freshman Jenna Capristo combined to score a season-high score of 9.65 in the Duo Pass of the Tumbling round. The two Bobcats improved to 4-0-1 in the heat with their lone tie coming against Baylor when they registered a 9.60.
Season-High Score
The Bobcats scored a 280.545 against Gannon which marked their highest result of the season. Quinnipiac's previous high was a 278.775 against Baylor in opener. QU also recorded season-high scores in the Compulsory Acro (38.80) round and the Team (100.82) event.
Quote of the Day
After sweeping the competition over the weekend in Virginia, the Bobcats' head coach was very impressed with her senior base. "Aleshia Ceste really stepped up in the meet against Glenville, she holds up the world in everything that we do," said Mary Ann Powers. "She has my vote for MVP of the weekend."
Two Wins, One Meet
Last weekend, the Bobcats took first place in a tri-meet against Alderson Broaddus and Fairmont State. Quinnipiac put up a score of 272.545 while coming back from a halftime deficit to take the final three events of the day.
Perfect Score
Against Baylor, the Bobcats captured two perfect scores on the day. Quinnipiac put up a 10 in the Pyramid heat of the Compulsory round before recording a second 10 in the Release heat of the Pyramid event. In the meet against Glenville State, the Bobcats submitted another perfect score, this time in the Flip heat of the Pyramid round.
Leaders of the Pack
For the 2015-16 season, head coach Mary Ann Powers has announced the selection of three seniors, Demitra Germanakos (Massapequa, N.Y.), Taylor Johnson (Foxboro, Mass.) and Kayla McCormack (Hanson, Mass.) as tri-captains.
Best of the Best
Two Bobcats were named to the 2015 NCATA All-American Team; Brooke Artz(Whitman, Mass.) and Taylor Johnson (Foxboro, Mass.). Artz earned her second consecutive honor while Johnson was recognized as an All-American for the first time in her career. Both athletes will compete as seniors this season.

Quinnipiac began the 2015 season with a tri-meet at Baylor University. The Bobcats fell to the Bears but easily defeated Concordia University. QU dropped to 1-2 on the year after dropping their home opener to Oregon. A week later, the Bobcats split a tri-meet at the TD Bank Sports Center. Quinnipiac took down Alderson Broaddus, but ultimately fell to Hawaii Pacific by less than a point. The Bobcats then went on a three-meet winning streak heading into the NCATA National Championships, defeating Alderson Broaddus, King University and Gannon in the process. The Bobcats saw their season come to an end in the quarterfinals, falling to Azusa Pacific, 279.705-277.525. For the individual events, QU took home the Open heat of the Toss event for the first time in program history. Quinnipiac rounded out the season with a 5-4 overall record.
NCATA Collegiate Membership
Quinnipiac begins its sixth full season as a member of the NCATA. In addition to Quinnipiac the league consists of 11 other schools, including Adrian College, Alderson-Broaddus University, Azusa Pacific, Baylor, Concordia University-Wisc., Fairmont State, Gannon University, Glenville State, Hawaii Pacific, King University and the University of Oregon.

The acrobatics & tumbling format revolves around a two-to-four team competitive meet. Within one meet are six events: Compulsory, Acrobatics, Pyramid, Toss, Tumble, and Team Event. Everything is competed in a head to head format, alternating from one team to the next. Scores will be displayed in real-time in order to inform both the teams and spectators as to which side is ahead. All skills have a pre-determined difficulty value and are scored solely on execution during the meet.
