QU Acrobatics & Tumbling Completes Second Half Comeback to Defeat Azusa Pacific, 284.60-283.39

The Bobcats Swept the Second Half With Season-High Scores in All Three Events
AZUSA, California – The Quinnipiac acrobatics and tumbling team completed a second half comeback to defeat Azusa Pacific, 284.600-283.390 on Tuesday night. After trailing at halftime, the Bobcats won the last three events and improved to 5-2 on the season.
The Cougars took an early lead with a win in the Compulsory round, 39.30-38.60. The Bobcats' scores of 9.85 and 9.90 in the Pyramid and Toss heats was not enough to beat the perfect scores submitted by the Cougars.
APU then increased their lead heading into the break with wins in both the Acro and Pyramid rounds. The Cougars took the Acro event, 29.55-28.80, and the Pyramid, 29.90-29.65 despite a perfect score from Quinnipiac in the Release heat. The Bobcats produced a 10 in the third heat, but still trailed by1.7 points at halftime.
Quinnipiac came out strong in the second half with wins in all three events. The Bobcats scored a season high, 29.80 in the Toss round to cut into the deficit. QU swept all three heats with monster scores of 9.85, 9.70 and a season-high 9.90 in the Open heat. Seniors Kayla McCormack, Jordan Cavallaro and Stephanie Amaral and juniors Kelsey Rule and Allee Tallman all combined to submit the huge score in the third heat.
The Bobcats then won three of the six heats in the Tumbling round to win their second consecutive event. QU scored a 9.50 in the Duo Pass as senior Taylor Johnson and freshman Jenna Capristo improved to 4-1-1 on the season. Sophomore Alyssa O'Connor scored a 9.70 in the Aerial heat and Johnson put up a 9.65 in the Open Pass to chip the Cougars' advantage to just 0.6 points heading into the Team event.
After scoring a season-high mark of 55.60 in the Tumbling, the Bobcats won the final round with another season-high score. QU took the Team event, 102.50-100.69 to capture a 284.60-283.90 victory over Azusa Pacific.
The Bobcats will return to Hamden for their final meet of the regular season in about two and a half weeks. On Sunday, Apr. 3, Quinnipiac will welcome Concordia University-Wisconsin for Senior Day. The meet is set to start at 12 p.m. from the TD Bank Sports Center.
