Taylor Johnson Improves to 5-0 in the Aerial Pass
EUGENE, Ore. – The Quinnipiac acrobatics and tumbling team fell to the Oregon Ducks on Saturday night, 280.675-278.46. The Bobcats won the Pyramid event, but could not overcome a 3.35 halftime differential. With the result, Quinnipiac dropped to 4-2 on the year while the Ducks improved to 4-1.
Oregon jumped out to a fast start by winning the Compulsory event, 38.40-36.25. The Ducks captured three of the four heats while the Bobcats won the Toss with a 9.75 mark.
The Ducks then won their second consecutive event by sweeping all three heats in the Acro event. Quinnipiac scored a 27.15 but could not overcome the 28.60 put up by Oregon. The Bobcats registered scores of 9.30, 9.15 and 8.70 in the round.
Quinnipiac bounced back with a victory in the Pyramid event to cut down the deficit and gain some momentum heading into halftime. The Bobcats secured a 29.30 to beat the 29.05 produced by the Ducks. QU took both the Flip heat with a 9.75 before scoring a 9.95 in the Release heat. Heading into the break, Quinnipiac trailed Oregon, 96.05-92.70 with three events to go.
The Ducks just barely edged QU in the Toss event, 28.90-28.70 to extend their lead heading into the Tumbling round. Oregon won the first two heats while the Bobcats captured the Open heat with a 9.75.
Oregon took five of the six heats in the Tumbling round to win their fourth event of the night. The Bobcats scored a 54.70, but it was not enough to cut into the Ducks' advantage. QU won the Aerial heat as sophomore Alyssa O'Connor (Smithtown, New York) produced a score of 9.675. The Bobcats trailed by 6.375 points heading into the Team event.
After scoring a season-high in the Tumbling round, the Ducks put up a 101.46 mark in the Team event for another season-high score. Quinnipiac registered a 98.80 for their second highest score of the year.
Up next, the Bobcats will resume their spring break trip on the west coast with a matchup against Azusa Pacific on Tuesday, Mar. 15 at 9:30 p.m.
