HAMDEN, Conn. - Former Quinnipiac men's basketball shooting guard Evan Conti '15 signed with Hapoel Migdal Haemek in the Israel National League earlier this month, embarking on his second professional season.
Conti played his first season in the Israeli National League last year with Hapoel Be'er Sheva, but recently signed with league rival Hapoel Migdal Haemek for the 2016-17 campaign. Haemek is currently six games into the season and sports a 3-3 record.
As a senior in 2014-15, Conti averaged 9.0 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 2.6 assists per game for the Bobcats. He is now one of three members of the Quinnipiac Class of 2015 who is playing overseas this year. Ousmane Drame is playing this year in Turkey after playing his first professional season a year ago in Spain, while Zaid Hearst is playing his second year in Spain. Justin Harris from the Class of 2015 also played in Slovakia a year ago, giving the Bobcats four players from the same class who earned professional contracts.
Drame has had a strong impact on his Samsunspor team in Turkey, averaging a double-double through his first nine games of the year with 14.4 points and 10.4 rebounds to help his club out to a 5-4 record, placing seventh out of 18 teams. He currently ranks fifth in the Turkish Basketball League in rebounding with his 10.4 boards per game.
Hearst is also playing very well to start his second professional season, averaging a team-high 17 points per game on 52 percent shooting from the floor for his Araberri squad in the Spanish Gold Division. Hearst currently ranks second in the entire league in scoring, while his team is in sixth place (out of 18) with a 6-3 record,
James Feldeine '10 also continues to be a key cog in a very successful team at Panathinaikos in Greece's A-1 League. A year ago, Feldeine helped his club to a 25-1 record, while this year, they are off to a 5-1 start as Feldeine is averaging 7.2 points as the top guard off the bench. Justin Rutty '11 is also expected to play professionally this year after a strong season a year ago in France for Berck (15 ppg).
The current Quinnipiac men's basketball team will be back in action at home on Monday evening for a 7 p.m. contest against Columbia. For ticket information, contact the TD Bank Sports Center Box Office at 203-582-3905 or visit us online at QuinnipiacBobcats.com.
